Map of the Week: June 2014
http://mapoftheweek.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 25, 2014. Quest for Nevada Complete! Here is one final self-indulgent post about the quest for my 50th state. After this I can get back to more interesting (to the rest of you) stuff. The quest is complete! I reached my 50th state-Nevada late at night on Amtrak's California Zephyr. A few more details and photos can be seen on Twitter-see the sidebar to the right. Just to get really self-indulgent, here is my updated county map. I often dream of trains. My self indulgent whims. We are trav...

http://mapoftheweek.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 24, 2015. Bearings of Baltimore Circa 1815. Is a fantastically detailed interactive historic map of Baltimore. This 2.5 billion pixel image was created from a 3D model that was a 2 year collaboration between the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and the Maryland Historical Society. The map is set in 1815, shortly after the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812 (though this battle took place late in 1814). When you click to go to the interactive map. Thanks to Maps Mania.

http://mapoftheweek.blogspot.com/2010/10/what-is-map-of-week.html
Tuesday, October 5, 2010. What is Map of the Week? Today is the fifth anniversary of Map of the Week! Sort of. Actually it's more complicated than that as most things are. An exact anniversary date is tough to pin down so today is as good as any. Here's the boring history lesson:. Map of the Week started in or around 1993 when I shared a house in Lawrence, Kansas with fellow graduate student, frequent commenter and Renaissance blogger Michael5000. On occasion I would send Mr. 5000 maps in the US mail...

Detail Paul Salopek's walk to trace the spread of humans throughout the world. In the most recent installment, he walks across the Hejaz of western Saudi Arabia, visiting ancient wells - the blue symbols on the map. And now for something completely different - a ridiculous comparison! As the Tesla network expands, trip planning will gradually become less important as it has in Sau...
