Saturday, 8 August 2015. Sherlock Holmes is in his nineties and his memory is fading. His offsider Dr Watson has died years earlier and Holmes is ruing that he can't fully recall his last case which prompted his self imposed exile to a quiet corner of rural England. The young son of his housekeeper provides the inspiration Holmes needs to tie up the loose ends of his life. The ageing ' Mr Holmes. Is beautifully portrayed by Ian McKellen. 9733;★★1/2. Sunday, 31 May 2015. Is a kind of CIA spy handler who steps up as a spy when the operative she is handling is murdered in the field. Is obviously modelled on the James Bond. Franchise from its prelude scene through its opening and closing credits. It's success as a comedy is partly that the performances are played straight rather than deliberately for the laughs although the film does occasionally drift into the current fad for gross-out humour. 9733;★★1/2. Friday, 31 July 2015. Whilst in Alaska earlier in the month we sailed into Glacier Bay. The MS Volendam. Silently and slowly made its way amongst small icebergs to get as close to several glaciers as safely possible. Low mist in the bay. Links to this post. Thursday, 30 July 2015. On his tour of Canada Andrew. Mentions British Colombia's grand Parliament building but evidently he didn't get to see it lit up at night. Links to this post. Wednesday, 29 July 2015. my ordinary life: June 2015

Tuesday, 30 June 2015. We boarded the Rocky Mountaineer this morning and set off at 7.45pm for Kamloops. The Rocky Mountaineer at Vancouver. Our train is comprised of 22 'pieces of equipment' as they call the assembly of carriages and other cars. It carried 665 passengers on this service with staff of 72. We were in a 'Gold Leaf' double deck carriage as seen in this photograph. Other carriages were of single level. A massive thunderstorm struck as Hn and I ate a Mexican meal in a local restaurant. Our fo...

Neglect | Deus Lo Vult
https://deuslovult.wordpress.com/2011/09/20/neglect
Where nobody knows your name. I have certainly neglected this blog over the past term. Let it be known that I really haven’t had the time (that’s the safe excuse, right? Though, in reply to a comment today, revisiting my old blogger friends, and ranting and spouting all sorts of random stuff on Twitter through Q and A tonight, I felt a longing to come back. When I return, perhaps I’ll have something for the blog. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Address never made public). Follow &ldq...

Where nobody knows your name. The year in review →. Soon my first year of full-time teaching will come to an end. I am sure I will find a post in that to write. To celebrate, at the end of the year I am going back to Vietnam. Every year (bar one or two in recent memory) I lament actually staying here as (largely) the evening is the same as any other. I have always said I’d go overseas, now I am. One thought on “ Soon. November 26, 2011 at 12:09 pm. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

2012 in Review | Deus Lo Vult
https://deuslovult.wordpress.com/2012/12/26/2012-in-review
Where nobody knows your name. New blog →. This year has been an interesting year for me. There have been a few ups and a few downs. While I finish it feeling as though it has been worse than better, I also am of the belief that that’s just something I’m telling myself. Pure laziness is the main contributing factor to my frustration and anger. But also pure ignorance is another. I know that I am a contributing factor to any argument, but I know that I don’t go looking for these run-ins. We went to Hong Ko...

https://deuslovult.wordpress.com/2012/12
Where nobody knows your name. I’m starting a new blog. It’s going to be far less personal, more thought-based/intellectual (for lack of a better word). I’m going to write about the books that I read as a way to stay engaged with the kind of thinking I have most definitely switched off from since departing university. If you’re interested, click here. But, for my immediate future, this new blog will be my focus. Hope to see you there! I taught all other history classes this year gone and only history in t...

Where nobody knows your name. Amelie vs. Garden State. 8211; Early in 2007 I invented some crazy way to compare movies that I liked. The first ‘test’ of this system was a comparison of these two films. What was produced was a marathon of a post that took three days to write. Approach with caution! The 18 Cup Tour. 8211; With me on my holiday through Europe was The 18 Cup (a trophy with a storied history that our group of friends played poker for) with me, and it found its way into some memorable photos.

Tuesday, 30 September 2014. This afternoon I'll fly out of Heathrow. Where I will transit for several hours before my flight to Hong Kong. The news there at present suggests my short stay may be more interesting than the rest stop it was intended to be when I booked my travel. Links to this post. The five ring circus. This morning I took the tube to Stratford. To have a look at what remains of the venue for the 2012 London Olympic Games. The walkway to the Stadium and Aquatic centre. The Orbit viewed fro...
