Recreational Boating…Attempt #1. One of the special perks of being at Palmer Station is the opportunity for recreational boating, weather permitting. Usually the weather is much more cooperative and rec boating happens as early as October. It was now into November and I still had not been rec boating. The waters were still pretty chalked full of ice, but I had faith that we could make it through. We got on all of our gear and headed down to the parking lot, the area where the zodiacs are tied up. Success…Recreational Boating does exist here at Palmer. After one attempt to go Rec boating failed, I was determined not to give up. On a nice Sunday morning in November (yes, I am bit slow in posting), the weather decided to cooperate and we decided to take our chances for Attempt #2. We packed our bags and headed out. Steve’s Night Out. We got suited up in our float coats in the event we fell through to the water (frightful thought, I know). We strapped on snow shoes and then we headed out. Getting ready for the excursion even though it began.zipping coats, putting on gloves, making sure the camera is easily accessible, etc. Notice the very flattering float coat. SAFETY FIRST. The walk was only about 2/3 of a mile, but with amazingly beautiful scenery and breathtaking views in all directions. It's just miraculous.
