Anna Milkowski: Adaptation in Comaltepec
http://annamilkowski.blogspot.com/2012/08/view-of-sierra-over-roof-primed-for.html
Sunday, August 19, 2012. View of the Sierra over a roof primed for future construction. We descended 40 minutes down a winding dirt road off Mexico 175 to the Chinantec community of Comaltepec, population around 2000. We joined the last day of a conference on adaptation to climate change in indigenous communities held by COMET LA. The conference seemed familiar, except the setting. Community and government understanding is low, and yet REDD pilot project proposals are needed as early as September. Photo ...

Anna Milkowski: The Spaces Between
http://annamilkowski.blogspot.com/2012/08/the-spaces-between.html
Monday, August 6, 2012. Monte Alban, elevation 1900m. Tourist bonanza yesterday, eight-hour combined sight-seeing / shopping racket worth every minute: Monte Alban, black pottery, seven-mole showcase, Cuilapam monastery, and alibrijes. Most interesting of course the spaces between: scenes from the van, snippets of conversation, the people. Guide Clemente went to high school in Pasendena, right near when I lived one winter training, prefers it here. And such light, air, and color! Afternoon rain is common.

Anna Milkowski: Mercados and More Street
http://annamilkowski.blogspot.com/2012/08/mercados-and-more-street.html
Sunday, August 12, 2012. Mercados and More Street. Diving might not have been her favorite Olympic event. Oaxaca is famous for its crafts and food markets. I find them overwhelming - so much stuff, so many people - buying and selling and consuming day after day after day. (Click title to see more.). So much stuff. So cheap. Practically IKEA. And textiles, for real. The scene behind my back. Universal remotes - a vision of hell. Fruit, with chili or without. Grasshoppers, a local delicacy.

Anna Milkowski: Timber in the Sierra Juarez
http://annamilkowski.blogspot.com/2012/08/timber-in-sierra.html
Saturday, August 18, 2012. Timber in the Sierra Juarez. The mill in Ixtapeji. The guys listened intently about a plague hitting pines and the new mill machinery. Http:/ www.ecoturismoenoaxaca.com/mapasierra.html. Rainforest Alliance's Paco, a local legend for his work in forestry over 30 years, surveys the scene. The guys (and one woman) listen. Paco and an authority. Next, a mill in La Trinidad. This mill is on wheels. An orchid sanctuary, home to orchids from trees harvested. Posted by Anna Milkowski.
