A trip to Poland: July 24 to August 6, 1998. I guess there are reasons besides not eating a lot, I mean they walk EVERYWHERE and lots of people smoke. Boy, do they smoke! A trip to Poland: July 24 to August 6, 1998. Our arrival in Bialystok was unremarkable. We settled down in our rooms and went to visit with family. My uncle's two daughters were home for a visit (Anna lives in Olsztyn, not far from the little village my parents are from) (Elzbieta lives in southern Poland in a town called Zabze). Bialystok is near the Belarusian border (about 60 km away) in northeastern Poland. Trip To Polska Home Page.

Krakow was at one time the capital of Poland for hundreds of years, the capital was moved to Warsaw in the 1600's but many have still considered the center of culture and arts and education to still be in Krakow. Here's a photo of the Cloth Hall (Sukiennice) in the middle of Old Town:. The morning we arrived a storm hit Old Town. This was the aftermath, less than 1 hour later it was sunny and warm. A few more photos of my favorite city.

Our day trip to the Aushwitz camps ended with a meal at a restaurant called the Skorpion, decent pierogis with sauerkraut and mushrooms can be bought here. The food was delicious after a long day without eating much else than rogolaki and kielbasa from the train station deli store. A trip to Poland: July 24 to August 6, 1998. I have read in guide books that the museum at Aushwitz is one of the most moving sites in Poland and that is. After the film, we entered into the camp. The gate through which the Nazi prisoners entered under not so long ago is the entrance to the museum. Arbeit Mact Frei' (Work Makes Free) is the cynical inscription above this gate (note where the white triangle points). The camp orchestra in 1944. Urge anyone who has an opportunity to make a trip here to do so.
