a thing with feathers: New Year’s Resolutions
http://hope-christine.blogspot.com/2012/01/new-years-resolutions.html
A thing with feathers. Monday, January 9, 2012. New Year’s Resolutions. Yes, this is a little late in the game, but there you have it. Oh the infamous New Year’s Resolution. Every year we make them, every year we break them. Right? But we all need an excuse and an opportunity for a little bit of self-reflection and hopefully a little more self-improvement. My top five New Year’s Resolutions will be the following:. 1 Find a mentor. 3 Keep a journal. Yet something else I have tried and failed to do every y...

a thing with feathers: September 2011
http://hope-christine.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
A thing with feathers. Thursday, September 29, 2011. I admit, I would never have thought of going to Chihuahua if it were not for a wedding. Flights are expensive (I could have flown to China for the price I paid for my ticket) and State Department warnings discourage travel to the area. Sometimes my family and I did feel like the only tourists in town, but now that I have been there I am truly glad I had the opportunity to visit this engaging city. Cathedral and the Plaza de Armas. Who wanted to impress...

A thing with feathers. Thursday, October 27, 2011. The Legend of Chihuahua’s Mannequin Bride. Oh Chihuahua, you just keep finding more ways to make me adore you. There are few things in this world I appreciate more than a good urban legend or ghost story. Forget Pancho Villa and Benito Juarez, Chihuahua’s most famous resident legend just might be a lovely and mysterious young thing named La Pascualita. As with most tales, the details have changed over time. Whatever the true fate of La Pascualita, gracia...

a thing with feathers: November 2011
http://hope-christine.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
A thing with feathers. Tuesday, November 22, 2011. Blog guilt and Scottish Heather. I’m experiencing a bit of blog guilt at the moment because I’ve only managed one posting so far this month. It’s not entirely my fault. My kindle was stolen two weeks ago and with it the source of my blog-posting inspiration. Plus, November has not yet failed to be the same hectic month it is every year. Here’s my attempt to make amends. Last weekend was the St. Andrew's Societ. In a tiny glen on the first of spring.

a thing with feathers: July 2011
http://hope-christine.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
A thing with feathers. Friday, July 29, 2011. A real character: Captain Zeb. In keeping with the Stonington theme, I discovered this gentleman, Zebulon Hancox, at the. Didn’t he have a great name? The photo above and the description below are from the Stonington Historical Society Museum:. Captain Zeb made his fortune by fishing (always), by building houses to rent, and by never buying anything he could possibly do without. He made all of his own clothes, and even whittled his own buttons. Stonington is ...

a thing with feathers: August 2012
http://hope-christine.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
A thing with feathers. Friday, August 31, 2012. Books I should have read by now but haven’t yet. They might not have landed on Modern Library's top 100 list (though some of them have), but remain pop cultural touchstones to this day. For some reason or another, though, they’ve always fallen below my “next to read” radar, usually because I’m too busy trying to read what’s current and relevant or trudging through what someone deemed to be "the great books.”. I’ve been missing out. Friday, August 24, 2012.

a thing with feathers: Can you ever go back?
http://hope-christine.blogspot.com/2012/09/can-you-ever-go-back.html
A thing with feathers. Friday, September 14, 2012. Can you ever go back? Tomorrow I’m flying to England. The bittersweet nature of this trip hit me last night as I was going through my jewelry box, trying to decide what to pack. I came across bits and pieces of earrings bought 11 years ago at Accessorize on Exeter’s High Street. Even though none of the pairs match anymore I’ve never been able to throw them away. Leaving Exeter after graduation was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I guess I'll know soon,...
