My Maritime Year

Not random, but definitely arbitrary, thoughts about living and breathing in Halifax. Friday, August 24, 2007. The first last thing. I know that I have done many things for the last time before we leave Halifax. If the weather stays this way, I will have had my last swim in Chocolate Lake a few weeks ago. I doubt that we will have time to go out to Clam Harbour or Lawrencetown Beach again before we blow town. Posted by Michael S. Thibault. Sunday, August 19, 2007. The camping trip that wasn't. My Maritime Year: March 2007

http://www.maritimeyear.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html

Not random, but definitely arbitrary, thoughts about living and breathing in Halifax. Wednesday, March 28, 2007. This was mentioned in the Globe and Mail today and I have to admit that I laughed out loud a few times. If you have no interest in Hockey whatsoever, don't bother. Posted by Michael S. Thibault. Saturday, March 24, 2007. This can't be legal. Well, maybe the first time Xine saw Loch walk by the pub, but I don't remember the sound exactly so it was probably just a normal gasp. PS For those of yo...

Not random, but definitely arbitrary, thoughts about living and breathing in Halifax. Monday, April 16, 2007. Yann Martel wrote in the Globe this weekend about a group of artists being brushed off by the PM. This is the action he has decided to take. I would categorize it as "Harassment by Literature". Should be entertaining for people who like literature, but don't like Harper. Http:/ www.whatisstephenharperreading.ca/. Posted by Michael S. Thibault. A bit of Dickensian fun. Not random, but definitely arbitrary, thoughts about living and breathing in Halifax. Wednesday, August 08, 2007. Here's a cool idea to solve the problem of inadequate OCR technology and the need/desire to digitize the legacy of written culture. Http:/ recaptcha.net/learnmore.html. Good cause, I figure. My Maritime Year: December 2006

http://www.maritimeyear.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html

Not random, but definitely arbitrary, thoughts about living and breathing in Halifax. Sunday, December 24, 2006. Nothing to see here, move along. Not that this information is for anyone in particular. but if one of my friends did happen to mention that they might be interested, here it is. The best vasectomy doctor in Ottawa. PS Chris, that triple-bock wheat beer is truly the Devil's drink. Actually, I'm not sure that he'd want someone's soul after drinking a few pints of that. Thursday, December 21, 2006.

My Maritime Year: I have no idea.

http://www.maritimeyear.blogspot.com/2007/07/i-have-no-idea.html

Not random, but definitely arbitrary, thoughts about living and breathing in Halifax. Tuesday, July 31, 2007. I have no idea. Although the skate gallery is past Lunenberg - the more-or-less official end of the tourist area - it is still on the Lighthouse Trail, so I'm not sure if locals consider it to be out of the way. It's only an hour from Halifax, which is close by a lot of cities' standards. But things are here the way they are. So how does it look down there? Posted by Michael S. Thibault. Michael ...

Simpig's Den: July 2007

http://simpig.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 09, 2007. Got a question about GPS functionality in cellphones. I don't believe that the GPS circuit is powered if the phone is turned off so I don't believe that a powered-off phone can be "tracked". Beyond that its hard to say because its really up to how the network and phone are configured to work. My Blackberry has a user option setting to enable and disable the GPS functions, however I believe that the setting gets bypassed during a 911 call, so can probably be bypassed other ways also.

Simpig's Den: August 2011

http://simpig.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 16, 2011. Product Review: 2012 Ford Focus SEL. I like the holder for sunglasses above the rear-view mirror. This has become a standard feature in a lot of vehicles and saves me having one of those clip-on things on my passenger visor. I've got a bit of a complaint here; the mechanism and construction of the whole area above the rear view mirror seems cheap and clunky, especially compared to wife's Honda CRV - but still, I like it. Not sure why, but SMS messages through the Sync interface ...

Simpig's Den: October 2010

http://simpig.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Saturday, October 02, 2010. I was drinking a glass of V8 V-Fusion juice and noticed the bottle says "no sugar added". It was pretty sweet so I started checking the label. There are lots of fruits and vegetables in this juice so likely all natural sugars, but the nutritional information says 27 grams of sugar in a 250 ml serving. How much is that really? So, a 10 oz glass of juice has the equivalent of 11 packets of sugar in it vs. the 1 packet I put in my coffee. Wow, eye opening. View my complete profile.

Sunday, February 10, 2008. Thursday, February 07, 2008. A freakin shame in the name of progress. Okay, picture a golf course. mostly open space, right? I'm assuming here, it could become a wonderful Super Center - mostly pavement with no trees at all, but whatever it is to become, I doubt it will be as "nice" as the golf course was. Driving on ice and snow when you are late for work and traveling 10km/hr is a lot more manageable when AC/DC is on the radio.Back in Black.gunna be a good day!

Thursday, November 15, 2007. Sunday, November 11, 2007. Movie Review: Smokin' Aces. Liked it a lot more than I expected! But that often happens to me with movies - I see something that looks good but not great, so I go in with low expectations and have less chance of being disappointed. Lots of guns and violence, makes for a loud couple of hours! Sunday, November 04, 2007. The ownership date for the new house is approaching - 5 more days! Anyone know how to test if a piano "works"? Simpig's Den: Airport Security

Saturday, June 18, 2011. Thus ends the initial account of one of the dumbest incidents ever recorded on this site, which is saying a lot. . Simpig's Den: December 2007

Saturday, December 29, 2007. Well, I noticed an article in the Star today about a place that allows you to compare car insurance rates ("Unbiased online car insurance. Anyway, this site also allows for regular updates to be emailed to you on the rate comparisons. I guessed at some of my info (like date I got my license and years insured, stuff like that), so maybe I will go back in and update with accurate information and see if it makes a difference. Simpig's Den: April 2007

http://simpig.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, April 22, 2007. Finally - CD Library working again. I've finally got one of my old computers up and running and working with my Kenwood 200-disc CD changer. This doesn't sound like much but given the bugs with the NetNamer software. And the problems I've been having with my dial-up internet service, this is a major milestone. The biggest step was getting the high(er) speed wireless internet service from Routcom - which allows me to use the internet the way it is meant to be used. No more trying t...

Simpig's Den: June 2007

http://simpig.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, June 30, 2007. The silence of the fish tank is deafening. Not wanting to simply flush our little guys to that horrible tank in the back yard (we are on a septic system), we decided to let them loose in a nearby weedy overgrown pond. They are old, they are tropical, and they are brightly coloured so no expecting them to last long in that environment, but at least they can go out fighting! Friday, June 29, 2007.
