Ron Moves On: August 2012
http://ronmoveson.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Miscellaneous stuff, some techie, some hobby, some social, some natural world. Saturday, 11 August 2012. Note: No grisea were harmed in the production of this entry. Friday, 3 August 2012. Olympic Men's Time Trial. Our modest contribution to the joy of nations at the London Olympics has been to help line the route of the men's cycling time trial. Of course, when you line the route, you see but a snapshot of the race, so we watched the TV coverage on iPlayer when we got home. It's good to know the res...

Ron Moves On: September 2013
http://ronmoveson.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Miscellaneous stuff, some techie, some hobby, some social, some natural world. Monday, 23 September 2013. Fashion repeats in cycles. Perhaps, one day, that paisley shirt will once more reign supreme, though I reckon it will be another half century. So, as I look at the new generation of brown cars, from the greater and the lesser makers, a clear image of a brown wedge-shaped Princess burns itself into my mind. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Ron Moves On: A rye smile
http://ronmoveson.blogspot.com/2014/05/a-rye-smile.html
Miscellaneous stuff, some techie, some hobby, some social, some natural world. Wednesday, 21 May 2014. I need a proving basket (or banneton to the cognoscenti). Whilst the bread maker still makes the daily breakfast bread (with a bit of help from me), I have taken fully to the whirling dough hooks to make various 'artisan' breads for lunchtimes. Most of the recipes start from Paul Hollywood's book How to Bake, which is actually very good (and can often be found remaindered and fairly cheap). For the seco...

Ron Moves On: October 2014
http://ronmoveson.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Miscellaneous stuff, some techie, some hobby, some social, some natural world. Wednesday, 22 October 2014. Kate had had her sewing machine for over 40 years. It's had a long life but not a hard one so it was a bit disappointing when she plugged it in and the control foot went 'phut'. The RCD tripped, cutting off electricity throughout the house, so it was a fairly serious phut. Replacing these suppression capacitors needs some caution, they lead an arduous life. Capacitors such as this that go across...

Ron Moves On: DABbling

Miscellaneous stuff, some techie, some hobby, some social, some natural world. Monday, 10 August 2015. There's a technical detail not particularly obvious from the screen: when the audio from the various stations has been digitised and munged together into multiplex form, it's diced up into around 1500 distinct slices of the frequency spectrum before finally being impressed on the radio frequency. The slicing improves the signal's immunity to reflections, amongst other things. View my complete profile.

Ron Moves On: July 2014
http://ronmoveson.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Miscellaneous stuff, some techie, some hobby, some social, some natural world. Saturday, 19 July 2014. I'm a traditional sort who likes to hold any music CD I buy in my sticky fingers. Imagine my surprise (as they say) when I found that a CD I had seen reviewed favourably was available from my favourite music vendor, Presto. Only as a download. Various thoughts crowded into my head. Will it be plagued by DRM? Will I be able to burn the music to CD? Oh, and what's that format option? Phew, all sorted; buy...
