Hardwood Artisans: February 2009
http://markhardwoodartisans.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Local Handmade Quality Longevity Beauty Personality. Friday, February 27, 2009. The Power of the Internet. The web is a funny thing. Some days I can't find what I want and I think all this online stuff is just a big waste of time. (I sound like Mark, don't I? No, this is Alison.). But other days, I think it's great. (That's better.). For those of you who don't know, Hardwood Artisans is also on Twitter. What's Twitter? A few weeks ago who does hand-turned wood...

Local Handmade Quality Longevity Beauty Personality. Wednesday, March 25, 2009. Shop Local: Etsy DC. Anyone who has been reading this blog for any length of time knows that I love Etsy, the online marketplace for vintage goods and crafts of all sorts. In the spirit of The 3/50 Project. Today I thought I'd share some of my favorite local Etsy sellers and introduce you to a neat feature Etsy implemented a while ago called Shop Local. And Annie of imogene. ItR...

Local Handmade Quality Longevity Beauty Personality. Tuesday, October 28, 2008. My extremely talented Marketing Director recently coerced me into writing down some of my sage knowledge in the form of an article, which we submitted to DesignLine magazine. Today the mail arrived, and with it came the magazine, with. On pages 16 – 17! 8220;The new phone book’s here! The new phone book’s here! I’m somebody now! So, what do you think? Sidewinder Studio: A Whole Bed
http://blog.sidewinderstudio.com/2009/10/whole-bed.html
Tuesday, October 6, 2009. Today we put together the whole Linnaea bed and threw a matress up there to get the whole picture. We're going to make a few changes: the upholstered panel looks too low and the top arch looks too thick. And even though Mark may want to kill me over this point, the panel could use maybe a wee bit more padding. Here are the two footboards next to each other; but it turns out we don't really like the lower one. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.
Hardwood Construction | The Punch List
https://thepunchlist.wordpress.com/2009/01/14/hardwood-construction
Easy Home Updates and Improvements. Creatively Living in Small Spaces. Real Inspiration for Bloggers →. January 14, 2009. When shopping for furniture, you quickly realize how rare it is to see quality construction. Yes, it is great to be able to find low-priced items and there are a slew of stores that cater to this. So when I came across a local (Washington, DC area) hardwood furniture maker, I was very excited. Hardwood Artisians. This entry was posted in Shopping. And tagged hardwood furniture.
Sidewinder Studio: January 2009
http://blog.sidewinderstudio.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Thursday, January 15, 2009. A lack of posts. Yeah, yeah. I've been lax of late. Not from lack of exciting things going on, but because of all the exciting things going on. So, the new product development got put on hold. Mostly so I can go build the strange and custom things that our customers are actually paying for at the moment. These have been odd hall tables, kitchen islands, and whole room's worth of bookcases. Mostly I popped in to write about the "launch" of my Etsy store. Often for my new work.
Sidewinder Studio: November 2009
http://blog.sidewinderstudio.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 5, 2009. A couple of weeks ago, when it was beautiful after work, I spent a few days turning new style mugs. Made up of 8 segments and a bottom, they are a bit easier to finish in one setting, don't require huge chunks of wood, offer the ability to mix and match woods, but do tequire some initial effort. The big walnut and maple one (center rear) and the paduk one (center front) are among my favorites right now. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Work has a Blog.
Sidewinder Studio: September 2009
http://blog.sidewinderstudio.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Monday, September 28, 2009. Since everyone in the shop knows I've been working on the Linnaea bed, when they saw me working on this other project. I started getting weird guesses about the type of bed it was. Racecar and fish are the ones I remember. But really, it's a set of kitchen shelves. V11 of the headboard was still a bit off the mark, so I've got to redo most of it. v2.0 should be around later this week. Tuesday, September 22, 2009. Uphostery in; Verdict too. Wednesday, September 16, 2009.

Friday, October 3, 2008. The Linnaea chest and dresser are now finished. Thanks to Brian for doing a fair amount of grunt work fitting the drawers. So here they are with finish on them and handles. And a view of the drawers! Wednesday, October 1, 2008. October not only brings wonderful weather, but also some wonderful events. The Big Apple Circus, Pumpkin Patch, and SPX. Since I had never been at the awards presentation, I found the sample they sent for me to mimic a little strange. Once I found out ...

WILLARD D. MARKHARDT - PAINTER
WILLARD D. MARKHARDT - PAINTER. I thoroughly enjoy applying paint to canvas. When working with paint I am reminded that life is never predictable, that the paint has a life of its own over which an artist has only limited control. Van Gogh and Gauguin are probably the biggest influences on my work. I saw a Gustav Klimit exhibit at the Guggenheim when I was a teenager, and I am still very inspired by his works. From oil portraits of babies to cats cast in concrete, I have worked in a variety of mediums in...
