August 11, 2013. Towns near water just have a different vibe and I was excited to see folks out enjoying music, the sun, and beach. One of a series of lakeshore towns, I stopped and explored Cornucopia a bit and chatted with folks about kayak trips out to the Apostle Islands(! Sailboats are everywhere and I admired some still in storage near the harbor, stirring fantasies of future adventures. I grinned with excitement standing under this powerful looking lady. August 7, 2013. Ok I’m on the road. Leaving Mound I found a nice paved trail sneaking it’s way through the back yards of suburban Minneapolis with its many lakes and beautiful dense marshes. It delivered me into downtown and I strolled around for a bit to catch a glimpse of Minnesota’s city culture but was soon on my way. August 19, 2013. Day 12 I spent the morning in camp at Pictured Rock. I had breakfast with Durk and Maloe, a couple from Amsterdam that introduced me to the cucumber and peanut butter sandwich. They said it calls for salsa as well, an idea which I’m on the fence about, but the simpler version has been added to the road repertoire. Regardless, it was great hanging with them! Nice hard-packed dirt road. Waves: look harmless, but capable of crushing bike a rider's soul. So, needless to say my offroad advent...
