Mark's Veg Plot

Monday, 2 April 2018. My Courtmoor plot at the end of March. Having spent most of my time at the plot during the Winter carrying out preparatory digging, it has been a relief to get some planting done! I now have 27 Broad Bean plants in and growing away, and at home I have another little batch of 4 spares coming on, which will probably end up here too. The Raspberry canes are all "done" now - pruned, weeded and mulched. One other significant development: I have discovered where water for the plot can be ...

Mark's Veg Plot: Awards

http://marksvegplot.blogspot.com/p/marks-veg-plot-chilli-awards.html

I have invented a new Award - the "Mark's Veg Plot Chilli Award". This award will be given to the blog / bloggers I feel most deserving of praise (in my own view! The criteria for this award are purely arbitrary, and my decision on who gets them is FINAL. This award is "for honours only" - no cash prizes I'm afraid! Some likely contenders are:-. Bloggers that are helpful to others, in that they provide useful advice and guidance. Bloggers that have a good sense of humour. Blogs I especially like! Kelli B...

Mark's Veg Plot: Anaemic

http://marksvegplot.blogspot.com/2015/08/anaemic.html

Thursday, 6 August 2015. My cucumber plants have not produced much yet. The first of the two "Mini Munch" plants has given me three fruits so far, but the first of the "Diva" has yet to be picked. Whilst tying-in the plant I found this very anaemic-looking cucumber nestled amongst the lower leaves:. In this next photo you can see the cucumber right at the bottom, just above the rim of the container. 6 August 2015 at 12:21. 6 August 2015 at 13:38. 6 August 2015 at 14:20. 6 August 2015 at 16:26. Friday, 7 August 2015. We will be on holiday for a while soon, so Mark's Veg Plot will be suspended for a short time, and I will not be posting or commenting. I hope to be back in action "soon", so watch this space. Just before I go though. Mostly "Maskotka", with 3 small "Orkado" (front right) and two very small "Primavera" (front left). 7 August 2015 at 12:02. That is a really lovely basket of tomatoes. All perfectly ripe. Enjoy your holiday. 7 August 2015 at 16:07. Have a lovely holiday! Please note t...

Mark's Veg Plot: Carrot Root Fly precautions

http://marksvegplot.blogspot.com/2015/05/carrot-root-fly-precautions.html

Thursday, 21 May 2015. Carrot Root Fly precautions. Last year I used Enviromesh for the first time, to protect my carrots from the Carrot Root Fly, and I am now a convert. Carrot Root Fly infestation is more or less inevitable if carrots are not protected, and the results can be devastating. Carrots infested by Carrot Root Fly - Photo from 2010. The manufacturer's website describes Enviromesh like this:-. Having seen the results of using this material, I shall be using it for the foreseeable future!

Mark's Veg Plot: Harvest Monday - 18 May 2015

http://marksvegplot.blogspot.com/2015/05/harvest-monday-18-may-2015.html

Monday, 18 May 2015. Harvest Monday - 18 May 2015. Well, cold, wet and windy weather we had at the beginning of last week has not suited many of the veggies, but there are some things that enjoy rain:. I think that rain at Asparagus harvest time is a good thing. Last year I made a big effort to water the Asparagus generously during May, and it really paid off: I had probably the best harvest I have ever had. This year, Nature is doing the task for me. 18 May 2015 at 14:31. 18 May 2015 at 16:22. The weath...

A real hotchpotch of things this month. All my container grown fruit has been repotted in fresh compost this year. The Good Life: February 2015

http://jo-thegoodlife.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Charting the progress on my allotment in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Friday, 27 February 2015. Back in 2013 I treated myself to a new plant each month. I followed one of Geoff Hamilton's tips, buying a plant in flower each month of the year so that I'd have something blooming in the garden the whole year round. It has increased in size though, and as you can see, it's just starting to bud up. It should have a mass of flowers given time. Its flowers are produced in late winter and early spring, so it sounds as...

Small vege garden in a suburb. A novice vegetable gardener introduces the growth of vegetables, trips, and foods from Osaka, Japan. Apr 29, 2013. My organic challenge vol.2. I don't want to use chemical pesticide but how can I ward off bugs organically especially aphids, which damage my vegetables every year? The sheet is effective not only for repel bugs but for cooling down soil by reflecting sunlight. Today I covered my gardening ridges with the sheet. Links to this post. Apr 28, 2013. Mark Riley's Velocity Build. A log describing the construction of an experimental aircraft. The Velocity XL is a 5 seat canard. Thursday, March 22, 2018. Major Upgrades to the Plane. The third was the wild card. There is an old saying - "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". This seems to especially apply to airplanes. Whenever you change something or upgrade something, you get a new problem somewhere else. On the other hand the choice between transponders was easy. The Garmin transponder was much more c...
