Finally back onto the boat. While waiting for the rudder tube I decided to cut the 30mm hole for it in the bottom of the boat. This should have been relatively easy until I started measuring up the hull. It doesnt quite tie up with the plans. Small discrepancies I can understand but 10mm is a lot. Although coincidently it is the thickness of a bulkhead so perhaps I just bonded it in the wrong side of the line. In the end I did both but had more faith in the centre of the stiching seam and chose that.

Time to start Lofting the hull panels. First you need to mark a 200mm grid onto the ply. I snap'd a string line 25mm from the board edge the length of the board and then constructed a perpendicular line using the 3-4-5 rule. As you can see the blue chalk goes everywhere. Then added lines parallel to this at 200mm pitch covering the length of the panel to be lofted. The stern radius at 1.5m was constructed with a 2m steel rule and a Trend.

February saw the start of the bench project. My ageing Workmate wasn't going to be up the task and working on the floor kills my back. The difficulty is, you need a bench in order to build a bench. So the design had to be self jigging. Fortunately, the first batch of timber was straight and true so the frame went together square. The second batch of timber was another story. Which appeared in 'June 1987 Falco Builders Letters'.

May started with the Isle of Wight Randonnee. And what a lovely day it was too. A cloudy start followed by an afternoon of sunshine. I think of these trips as my annual reminder that the IoW is far from flat and quite frankly, I simply don't have enough Torque to get the job done without incurring a lot of pain. Only willpower and Jelly beans. Or is this case proving out a new bike. Concept. If I do another one it will be electric assist. I might even enjoy the trip for once. Using an Arduino Uno.

As I'm late posting this months update I thought I might as well include the highlight of October. After all it's only the 7. We finally turned the boat over! Getting it back in was much easier as it could be slid on it's keel with a big push. Janet did a great job with the camera such that I can post this animated gif of the whole procedure. So a BIG thank you to the Boat turning Team. Eight years to get to this point. Time to pick up the pace.

Monday, December 17, 2007. Has it been that long? It seems like just yesterday that I posted something to this thing. But man how 542 days fly by when you aren't looking.
