Mart the Rev: January 2010
http://marttherev.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Stuff on life, God, music, and things like that. I read four books over the holidays - here they are ranked in order from absolutely brilliant to a good read. (I will add them as time permits.). 1 The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Tasman Bay on the way north. Oh yes, on our way north Anne and I had five very pleasant nights at Little Kaiterteri when I conducted the wedding of Anna and Andrew. Early one morning I headed around the hillside walkway and captured these images. Kaiterteri Beach, Nelson. I am a ...

Mart the Rev: May 2010
http://marttherev.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Stuff on life, God, music, and things like that. Mart 49 music compilation. Here’s the last year’s favourite music that fits on a cd (there were a number of others reluctantly dumped off the list! 8211; it is not necessarily new music, but songs I have enjoyed the most at different times during the year. Here is the list in order of what sounds good on a compilation rather than order of preference:. 1 I’ll go crazy if I don’t go crazy tonight – U2 Artificial Horizon. Project was what put me on to her).

Mart the Rev: article for The Press
http://marttherev.blogspot.com/2010/06/article-for-press.html
Stuff on life, God, music, and things like that. Article for The Press. Recently I wrote an article for the local newspaper on 'What's right with the Church'. It was good to have the opportunity to offer something that celebrates those who find themselves in the middle of the extremes for whom their practical expression of faith is valuable and valued. However I find it more of a discouragement that Christians look so much like everyone else. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Stuff on life, God, music, and things like that. My earlier comment referring to Jesus not advocating. Violence in any form might get a rise from someone. is smacking violence? I'm saying that smacking is violence - and in the case of adults smacking children, it is in the realm of the worse kind of violence (even if in most cases it is a relatively mild form of it). Let me explain myself. 1 violence in my view is when one inflicts pain on another using force. 7 Finally, I believe (with Leunig. Below) th...

Stuff on life, God, music, and things like that. It is just over a week since the devastating earthquake on 22 February. Anne and I are off to a funeral today - a gorgeous woman died suddenly a few days after the quake - so very sad. I'm involved in the Presbyterian church in the region and tied up with coordinating efforts in the area. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I am a Presbyterian Minister, married to Anne who is also a minister, father of three and grandfather of one! View my complete profile.

Mart the Rev: July 2009
http://marttherev.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Stuff on life, God, music, and things like that. It hit me the other day, there is another person close to me who I would die for if there was something I could do that might prevent his being hurt. I was holding my grandson Oliver, and I realized that the net of those who I care deeply for has spread. Now, I don’t know what the odds are of my being killed by putting myself in harms way as a substitute for someone else, I imagine the odds are very low. John Boyne's The House of Special Purpose. Last year...

http://marttherev.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Stuff on life, God, music, and things like that. A Love Affair With More -. Though many of us are well intentioned, we have invested our lives in consumerism. We have a love affair with 'more'- -and we will never have enough. Consumerism is not simply a marketing strategy. It has become a demonic spiritual force among us, and the theological question facing us is whether the Gospel has the power to help us withstand it. Mart the Rev: November 2009

Stuff on life, God, music, and things like that. Oliver looking over the couch. A friend who works in the commercial side of the road building industry made it possible for us to get the stones for the glasshouse. we are very grateful. The condition was that we had to pick it up this week as he is tied up for a while after that. The stones are stored until needed - I think there is a surplus but there is a hen house to build so the design for that might be altered to use the materials on hand. I'm keepin...
