A blog to share a love for history and related subjects. Saturday, June 16, 2012. Where Did 'From Pompey Hill" Go To? I've made a decision today, to delete my second blog From Pompey Hill to Wall Street. About the life and times of Leonard Jerome. S maternal grandfather. The blog format wasn't working well for the concept. And I'll be able to add special-interest pages alongside the basic biography, such as Leonard's interest in thoroughbred horse-racing, and being a co-founder of the American Jockey Club.

A blog to share a love for history and related subjects. Friday, July 8, 2011. In Search of Leonard Jerome. This past Tuesday, I made a research visit to the Pompey Historical Society. New York. This small, but very active, group of local history enthusiasts have quite a collection of documents, photos, and artifacts, that tell the story of the town of Pompey and other surrounding small rural communities. I was there to do research on the family of Leonard Jerome. At the University of Cambridge. In Pompe...

A blog to share a love for history and related subjects. Saturday, July 7, 2012. The Big Day, Part Two. To continue with my description of 7 June 2012: the day of the reception at The Morgan Library and Museum. For Churchill: The Power of Words. Surprisingly, it only took one attempt to get a pair of 'dress earrings' on, to match the necklace and ring I wore. The challenging part was getting used to the inch-high dress shoes I bought. Most of the time, I wear flats on my feet, or just socks! Just after 6...

A blog to share a love for history and related subjects. Tuesday, November 15, 2011. Day Two of My Excellent Hyde Park Adventure. Wednesday, 9 November 2011, was another unseasonably warm and sunny day. The middle day of my short stay in Hyde Park, New York. Would be the busiest one yet. I would be spending most of the day with my British friend Mr. Allen Packwood, the Director of the Churchill Archives Centre. Themed exhibition at The Morgan Library. To see how they, too, could assist in his work. In la...

A blog to share a love for history and related subjects. Friday, July 6, 2012. Yes, I Know: It's Been Awhile. Yep- it's been some time since I've written in this blog. I could use all kinds of reasons/excuses/rationalizations: I was too lazy, or it was too hot outside, or whatever. Enough's enough. Let's try and describe my trip to New York City, for the opening of Churchill: The Power of Words. At The Morgan Library and Museum. The Museum's entrance is the photo above left. Or words to that effect.
