Miller is made to personify our typical American girl, beautiful, irresistible and foolish. Her name alone symbolizes an American icon. It is burned into the collective conscious, Harold Gray's comic strip. This creative nomenclature is not author-intended, for the first appearance of comic strip Annie was in The Chicago Tribune in 1925 and Daisy Miller was first published in 1878.
