Alison Martino's "Vintage Los Angeles": October 2014
http://martinostimemachine.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Alison Martino's "Vintage Los Angeles". Friday, October 31, 2014. Bullwinkle Statue fully restored! On September 24, 1961, a gigantic revolving sculpture featuring the cartoon stars Rocky and Bullwinkle was erected. At 8218 W. Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, directly across the street from a revolving statue of a cowgirl promoting the Sahara Casino Hotel in Las Vegas. She lasted 10 years, but Rocky and Bullwinke stayed put much longer—until 2013—long after Ward’s studio s. In the 15 months since, I&#...

Alison Martino's "Vintage Los Angeles". Saturday, March 15, 2014. The Witch's House in Beverly Hills. Spent a magical evening with my best friend Maria McKee. Inside the "The Witch's House" last night for Vintage Los Angeles. In fact it has just been declared a Landmark by the city of historic preservation due to it's unique storybook design, age and role in early Hollywood! And we are all SOOOOO happy about that! Alison Martino's "Vintage Los Angeles": Inside the "Witch's House" in Beverly Hills
http://martinostimemachine.blogspot.com/2014/11/by-alison-martino-i-grew-up-trick-or.html
Alison Martino's "Vintage Los Angeles". Wednesday, November 5, 2014. Inside the "Witch's House" in Beverly Hills. I grew up trick or treating on Halloween in the late ’70s and early ’80s at the Witch’s House. The owners at that time would dress up as ghosts and goblins and hand out taffy from a witch’s kettle. There was dry ice coming from the moat around the house and Disney’s Haunted Mansion soundtrack could be heard out the upstairs window. It was an event. Tell me about the Witch’s House history.

THINGS OF THE PAST. Somewhere Along The Way. El Miradero: The Brand Park and Library. January 26, 2015. If you’ve ever seen The Naked Gun. Which I had the delight of re-watching this weekend, you might recognize El Miradiro as the terrorist headquarters (set in Beirut) from the opening scene. Before serving as a backdrop in the crass comedy, as well as a handful of other earlier films, the Indo-Saracen style structure served as the private residence of real estate tycoon, Leslie C. Brand. THINGS OF THE PAST. Somewhere Along The Way. A Day In The San Francisco Bay. November 10, 2014. We frequently visit San Francisco and while we enjoy exploring like locals, we also shamelessly indulge in touristy activities. On our most recent trip, we realized we’d never been on a boat in the San Francisco Bay. We hadn’t given it much thought since we had seen it from countless vantage points around the city, and really, would it look any different from a boat? Tour so we took it as a sign to try it out.

THINGS OF THE PAST. Somewhere Along The Way. THINGS OF THE PAST. February 3, 2015. Kinetescape was a short-lived, but fondly remembered shop that recently vacated its home on 7th and Spring in downtown. For years, the A.G. Bartlett building retail spaces have been occupied by lowbrow discount shops, so it was incredibly exciting when the paper came off the windows to reveal the handsome corner shop in 2013. THINGS OF THE PAST. Somewhere Along The Way. THINGS OF THE PAST. A Look Inside The Abandoned Roxie Theatre. December 8, 2014. The poor Roxie Theatre has been standing on its last leg for a while now. For the last few years we’ve fawned (and cried) over the now-derelict Art Deco facade. We have seen vintage photos, and the interior was, admittedly, nothing spectacular. The seats and the ticket booth had been torn out years ago, and last we heard the auditorium was full. THINGS OF THE PAST. October 30, 2014.
