The following lesson, I re-grouped and tried a more open task – “travel and transport”. This seemed to be more successful. Pupils began to make vocab lists – use dictionaries, text books and Google translate. Some groups began to think about questions they might need to ask and look up these phrases. I teach in a rural comprehensive school in North Devon. Our demons are low expectations and low levels of literacy.
