University of Massachusetts Amherst. Massachusetts North American Amphibian Program. Amphibians and Reptiles of Massachusetts. Resources on Amphibians and Reptiles. How you can help. The goal of the Herp Atlas Project of 1992-1998 was to collect scientifically credible data to serve as a benchmark for monitoring the decline, recovery, or shift in distribution of amphibian and reptile populations in Massachusetts. Each quad was then divided into six “blocks” or “cells.”. For records with relatively high c...

New England Nature Notes: California
http://newenglandnaturenotes.blogspot.com/p/california.html
New England Nature Notes. Hiking Along the High Road in Brandeis, California. In the photo above you can see one of my favorite spots in the whole world, the High Road that runs through the hills and valleys in Brandeis, California. In addition to the various birds, lizards, snakes and ground squirrels beautiful varieties of flowering cacti also abound. As well as the first Rattlesnake I've seen up close, hiding (and presumably hunting) in the roots of an oleander bush. Gorgeous, bright white Snowy Egrets.

New England Nature Notes: October 2013
http://newenglandnaturenotes.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
New England Nature Notes. Saturday, October 5, 2013. A Spotted Sandpiper along the Charles River is Bird #174 for the Year. Paddling around Lake Cochituate I saw fewer birds than my previous trip, but there was still plenty to see, including the Painted Turtle in the photo above. There was also a raucous chorus of Blue Jays in the trees and many Mallards out on the water. The absence of the sound of Gray Catbirds was also noteworthy - perhaps they've already begun their migration. Subscribe in a reader.

New England Nature Notes. Friday, February 7, 2014. South Florida, Part 1 : Alligators, Palm Trees and Purple Gallinule. Where we had the opportunity to see a variety of sea turtle species up close, learn about the important conservation work going on at the center and check out some very cool spiders spinning enormous, elaborate webs, along the boardwalk. One of the most interesting animals we saw during our visit to Gumbo Limbo was an Atala butterfly. As we drove around this part of Florida we continua...

Posted by Daniel E.Levenson. Now that the snow is gone, the ice has melted and the trees are once again bursting forth with buds, leaves and birds, I find myself itching to get back out into the woods and onto the water.
