Jules Henri Poincare, 1854 1912. 60 級 廖春凱 繪. Poincaré 1854 1912 生於法國 Nancy，卒於巴黎，法國數學家。 19 歲進入綜合工科學校 Ecole Polytechnique ，數學表現遙遙領先同儕。 1875 年他畢業後，進入礦業學校 Ecole des Mines 立志成為工程師，但是他的數學天分，還是讓他走回數學的道路。 1879 年，他在 Hermite 指導下，在巴黎大學取得博士學位，隨即應聘到 Caen 大學教書。 1881 年，他 27 歲時轉到巴黎大學任教，一直到他過世。 Poincaré 的數學工作跨越相當多領域，包括 自守函數、動力系統與渾沌的預見。 另外，Poincaré 在天體力學的成就，總結在他 天體力學方法 Les methodes nouvelles de la mecanique celeste, 1892-1899 三冊， 天體力學講義 Legous de mecanique celeste, 1905-1910 三冊。

Issac Newton, 1642 1727. 62 級 陳文賢 繪. Issac Newton 1642 1727 ，英國的數學家及物理學家，微積分主要締造者，萬有引力理論的發明者。 Newton 在 1642 年生於英國的 Lincolnshire。 Newton 於 1667 年回到劍橋，並於 1669 年成為講座教授。 1684 年 Newton 開始撰寫 Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica 自然哲學的數學原理 這部曠世巨作，而於 1687 年完成並出版。 完成了 Principia 後，Newton 也就離開了學術。

Johann Carl Friedrich Gauss, 1777 1855. 62 級 徐莉芳 繪. Gauss 1777 年 4 月 30 日 1855 年 2 月 23 日 出生在德國 Brunswick。 Gauss 從小有數學異稟，這個消息引起當地領主 Brunswick 公爵的注意，有意要栽培他，便出資把小學畢業後的 Gauss 送去優異的 Coroline 高等學校就讀 1792 年 2 月 1795 年 ，再由 Gauss 選定讀 Göttingen 大學 1795 年 10 月 5 日 1798 年 9 月 28 日。 畢業後 Gauss 赴 Helmstedt 大學作研究取得博士學位(1799 年 7 月 16 日)，論文便是 代數學的基本定理。 1801 年 9 月 29 日 Gauss 在公爵資助之下出版了他的數學巨著 整數論研考 (Disquisitiones Arithmeticae)。 以圓規與直尺作出正十七邊形，Gauss 才 19 歲 1786 年 3 月 30 日。 他的學生 Riemann 把他的曲面理論發揚光大成為 Riemann 幾何學。
