Fixed vs. Growth Mindsets and Math vs. English. Lately, I’ve been really contemplating why I had. A fixed mindset, currently trying. To cultivate a growth mindset in every area. Like most math teachers, I am really good at math. Math is easy. I figured out how to solve complex math problems. Honestly, I think I can only remember being stumped in high school once. So here is how I got to the place of wanting to change my mindset. I first read Mindset. Mistakes, instead of use. What do you think? Enter you...

My First Attempt at Open Middle Math Problems. Don’t you love when you learn something that makes your life better? Especially if that something is something you wanted to learn, but thought would be impossible to learn. This happened to me in Palm Springs, at the CMC-South Conference. Dan Meyer. Was talking about math problems that had “open middles”. Open Middle. This may seem a little unclear so here is the first example I came up with. So, here’s what I like. 3 Math, in general, tends to teach a conc...

About | Math M Addicts

https://mathmaddicts.net/about

I am a wife to one amazing husband 3, mommy of 3 awesome kids…a math teacher to more than 2000 students (over the years…and still counting). I love teaching, and watching students break down their previous self-imposed beliefs that they “just weren’t good at math”. I’m concerned about how teachers are expected to teach in ways in which we did not learn and in ways which were not appreciated. I want to find ways to help teachers go from surviving to thriving. Follow me on twitter! Troubleshooting a flipped classroom. Choose Your Own Assessment. 10 Tips For Memorable PD: #TMC15 Reflection. Relax on my couch after four days of what will undoubtedly be the most memorable conference I've ever attended, Twitter Math Camp. 2015, it's important to reflect on what happened. Yes, this is a family reunion, but that's what I wrote last year. About #TMC14 in Oklahoma (and it's true again). This year, I'm taking a different approach after hearing Fawn Nguyen. And I put to...
