http://www.matthewsimnaturephotography.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Matthew Sim: Nature Photography. Documenting nature throughout the world. Sunday, August 26, 2012. Loon photography; slightly tricky! I also found keeping the camera steady to be a challenge. I tried to bring a tripod on the raft however that didn't work to well so I had to content myself with resting the camera on top of the life jacket all minors were supposed to be wearing (oops! Canon Rebel XSi; Manual exposure, 1/500sec., f6.3, ISO 400 with Sigma 150-500 f5.6-6.3 @ 289mm. More photos to come soon!

Matthew Sim: Nature Photography. Documenting nature throughout the world. Monday, December 24, 2012. A Christmas tree of crossbills. It seems even mother nature is in a festive mood and had decorated this spruce tree with Red Crossbills, perched on branches like little red and yellow ornaments! Tuesday, December 18, 2012. Preparing for a second shot at 500. Ok, here we go! Second shot at 500 species of birds and mammals in a calendar year coming up for 2013; a mere 13 days away! I can feel it. Birding ar...

A Calgary Birder: Magic Moments at the Nest Box

http://calgarybirder.blogspot.com/2013/06/magic-moments-at-nest-box.html

Saturday, 1 June 2013. Magic Moments at the Nest Box. I also came across this short video. Of him putting one together and talking about the different types of nest. One of our decorated nestboxes. Student and parent volunteer attaching a box to the fencepost. I was a little skeptical about how much success we would have with attracting birds, due to the urban location, and late May timing. But then something magical happened…. Tree Swallows, Tachycineta bicolor. Photo by Prairie Birder. 1 June 2013 at 1...

Tuesday, 2 July 2013. Where in the World is Calgary Birder? Clue #4 (and last! I'm heading off on an exciting trip this summer: a family vacation with lots of opportunities to see many new birds, as well as other cool wildlife. Rather than just telling you where I'm headed, I figured it might be fun to post a few clues in the form of photos of birds that could/should turn up on this trip. This last clue should tell you exactly in which country we are spending about three-quarters of our trip! Angela G ha...

A Calgary Birder: Birding in Bowmont Park

http://calgarybirder.blogspot.com/2013/06/birding-in-bowmont-park.html

Friday, 7 June 2013. Birding in Bowmont Park. As was to be expected with the intermittent, at times heavy rain, the light was not very good for photography but I did get a few decent shots, as captioned below. There's also a species list at the bottom of this post which is probably fairly typical for this area at this time of year, although Violet-Green Swallow and Common Yellowthroat were nice treats and we were surprised not to hear any Warbling Vireo. There were lots of Grey Catbirds. Notes From a NW ...

A Calgary Birder: November 2012

http://calgarybirder.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Monday, 19 November 2012. A Nemesis No Longer. Some of my childhood was spent in Ontario and I clearly remember seeing Pileated Woodpeckers a few times in the forests around Peterborough and Ottawa, mostly while out cross-country skiing. When I started keeping track of my bird sightings a few years ago, I assumed it would be a quick addition to my Alberta list. No such luck! In a larger map. The first thirty minutes of our outing was extremely quiet with a handful of Black-billed Magpies. Flew across the...

Guitar Tone Guru - Guitar Setups and Tone Consultancy

Welcome to The Guitar Tone Guru. Great guitar tone starts with a great guitar setup. My name is Matthew Simmons and I have been playing guitars for more years than I care to remember! I played mostly electric guitar, coming rather late in life to the joys of acoustics and have owned some great guitars and amps in my travels (and some pretty awful ones as well mid 70s Strats spring to mind! Ever since I bought my first guitar I was seeking to improve its playability and tone. I learnt the answers to these...

January 5, 2010. Anywho, my office is located on the loop in the Central Park Office Complex (I don’t even know my address yet). It’s the building right behind Coldwell Banker and right next to Rudy’s BBQ. Come and see me. Well now that I’m going to have a somewhat disciplined schedule (at least I’m trying), maybe I’ll blog a little more. So check back soon and see if I’m lying or not. Okay, I better get to work.
