Fairbourne sits on the southern lip of the Mawddach estuary, perched precariously at sea-level on the reclaimed ‘morfa’ or marsh-lands beneath the cliffs at the foot of Pen y Garn. Fairbourne Map and Directions. Much of the town’s present layout is due to the efforts of Sir Arthur McDougall (of self-raising flour fame) who, with the arrival of the railway in 1865, attempted to develop the area into a popular seaside resort to serve the English Midlands. Is still a popular reason to visit the town. To vie...

Brithdir is an elongated hamlet on the eastern outskirts of Dolgellau. Historically it was considered to be two townships, Brithdir-Uchaf and Brithdir-Isaf (Higher and Lower Brithdir). The Romans settled here building a small fort. And abandoning it around AD 120, and Plas Hen, the ‘Old House’ of the Caerynwch estate dates back to the 15th Century. A classic Victorian woodland wander alongside a moss-strewn series of waterfalls, also lies within the grounds of this estate. A video. What's on in Brithdir?
