And a Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the last weekend in March, with “high” temperatures reaching only the 20s. Deer are hanging out by the compost piles. Enjoying all that good hay that the goats waste. Momma Kitty survived another winter and is often out mousing in the snow for something more tasty than the Meow Mix we provide. With the increased daylight, he has relocated to his favorite window.

Bye-bye Winter, Hello Mojo. We’re finally through (we hope) with the 3rd snowiest winter on record. Because April was ridiculously cold up north, drifts lingered for a long time. Especially along roadsides and in the woods. As temps finally warmed around the middle of May, the nearby lakes thawed. Spring Lake was still icy on May 3. But cleared a few days later. As did Sandy Lake. Duck traffic increased on the front pond. The neighbors' meadow Pontiac emerged from its snowbank. Home of Regel Katan Farm.

It's not the heat OR the humidity. It’s the @#$%&! Masochists that we are up North, we’re celebrating a few records broken during this coldest winter in 35 years. On Feb 10 we surpassed the old record for consecutive days below zero. And then on Feb 16 we scored the record number of days below zero in one season (60) – and we’re adding to that record day by day. Lake Superior is almost completely iced over for the first time since 1996 (NASA photo). It will be a while before nearby Sandy Lake thaws.
