http://meanderingscholar.scientopia.org/page/2

The evolution of a scientist. By brooksphd) Jun 14 2012. In April I was promoted to Director of my group. But not new either. Some people quit. But, it all paid off. We showed enough promise and so we were made into the newest division of the Office of Research. We've grown back to a decent sized little group, and we got nice new offices, with nice dark wood furniture and some new toys to play with. And I got made Director. I'm a really good Project Manager. I'm an OK people manager. 13 responses so far.

The evolution of a scientist. You shall douche no moar! Jun 16 2012 Published by brooksphd. I am a huge fucking fan of invective. Invective snaps are instinctive and contain power. But Power needs to be used carefully or else it becomes tyranny. A child fucking swearing for fucks sake is a tyrant and a poorly educated idiot. That can be fixed. Douchebag though. Fuck me, there's a neutral swear with gravitas. But.alas Mrs. BrooksPhD disagrees. No moar douchebags in this house. Fuck that. Fuckthat....I wil...

The evolution of a scientist. Archive for: January, 2012. Jan 10 2012 Published by brooksphd. Well, this is rather interesting. Coincidentally, I fall into the same area (almost exactly) as the Dalai Lama. This must show something but Ill be buggered if I know what. To be honest, I think Ron Paul is a fucking douchebag, and even if he wasn't a racist, misogynist I still wouldn't vote for him. So I can't be THAT Libertarian, right? Time for some deep thinking. Tip o' Hat to Stupid Evil Bastard. Originally...

Microbiologist XX: Yep, it's been that kind of day.

http://microbiologistxx.blogspot.com/2011/02/yep-its-been-that-kind-of-day.html

Ramblings of a female microbiologist. Tuesday, February 1, 2011. Yep, it's been that kind of day. I started the day off well enough. I woke up on time, I made myself some coffee (bonus) so that I wouldn't need to stop on the way. I get in the car and proceed to work, quite proud of the $1.50 I am saving. However, about 30 seconds later, the universe decided that today, I would provide it with comic relief or something. Not the good kind). 2 My boob is really wet and warm. Several labor-intensive sips lat...

http://microbiologistxx.blogspot.com/2011/01/friday-funny-fk-you-and-your-fcking.html

Ramblings of a female microbiologist. Thursday, January 20, 2011. Friday Funny: F* k you and your f* cking cheeseburger. I don't know if I've mentioned this before or not, but I am from Texas. Although I don't share many of the opinions and views expressed by the inhabitants of my home state, I do love the Texas fast food burger joint know as Whataburger. When I was little I thought it was water burger). Like any establishment open 24h, drunk idiots tend to congregate at Whataburger. I am a post-doctoral...

Dreams and hopes of a (former post doc) scientist. Sciencey blog with emotions, sometimes too personal, it's venting ;). Sunday, August 02, 2015. Feedback on resume - tough love. It's always easier to look at someone else's resume or CV and critique than your own. Always. I help a lot of people with the job applications, scanning their resumes and CVs, adding a few key words, giving suggestions on how to best " present yourself in line with the ad. Kill your darlings indeed. Anyhow, I got a good slap in ...

Microbiologist XX: Dumb F**king Donkeys Strike Back

http://microbiologistxx.blogspot.com/2011/01/dumb-fking-donkeys-strike-back.html

Ramblings of a female microbiologist. Wednesday, January 26, 2011. Dumb F* king Donkeys Strike Back. I’m sure this is common in many labs, departments and offices: Some dumb fucking donkey (DFD) takes advantage of a good situation and everyone suffers because the people in charge prefer punishing everyone instead of confronting the person who is actually causing the problem. These instances might include, but are not limited to the following examples. Solution: Instead of speaking to DFD, the entire lab ...

Microbiologist XX: I can't say I'm too surprised.

http://microbiologistxx.blogspot.com/2011/01/i-cant-say-im-too-surprised.html

Ramblings of a female microbiologist. Friday, January 14, 2011. I can't say I'm too surprised. I am not big on making resolutions. That's not to say that I don't make any, but they are usually the same and I tend to make them multiple times of year. Two of my on-going work resolutions are: (1) stay up to date on freezer stocks and (2) keep the lab notebook current. Haha, keeing labbook current? Yes, leaving my post doc meant a lot of gluing, rewriting and making the books really pretty.). I am a post-doct...

Ramblings of a female microbiologist. Wednesday, January 12, 2011. Oh I don't know. Now that I am reading what I've written, it does sound a bit crazy. You don’t seem to get a lot of writing done at work. You have to stay few hours at home to write a lame abstract. Yet you have time to post at 3.24 pm (work hours! January 12, 2011 at 6:17 PM. Dreams and hopes of a (former post doc) scientist. Sciencey blog with emotions, sometimes too personal, it's venting ;). Saturday, April 12, 2014. Why you always need Plan B (and C and D). This last week I got reminded yet again why it's imperative that you always, always, have a plan B. (Yes, having a pack of Plan B - what the Americans call the "morning after pill" - at home if you are sexually active and not in the mood for offspring might also apply here.). Does come across as a fairly little threat ...

Dreams and hopes of a (former post doc) scientist. Sciencey blog with emotions, sometimes too personal, it's venting ;). Saturday, May 16, 2015. Mixing hope with experiences. A friend and I spoke the other week about the problem with hope and experiences. You have this hope about people and situations, then you have your previous experiences that add into the situations. The notion that " previous behaviour is a prediction for future behaviour. A) want to do a good job. B) care about the job. That makes ...

Dreams and hopes of a (former post doc) scientist. Sciencey blog with emotions, sometimes too personal, it's venting ;). Wednesday, June 24, 2015. Directness, rational and gooey center. Because I’m bored being the cute woman who is correct and demure. Sometimes I just feel like saying “this is F and G and you need to decide which you want”. It’s also sometimes where the indirectness makes it possible for the other person to ignore what you’re saying and do something ...I know, I’m overreacting....Just to...

The meandering thoughts of a few 20 somethings. Favourite Side Characters: A Friends Special Part 1: The Boyfriends. I haven’t posted anything on here for a while at all, let alone anything from this series. One reason is that no exceptional candidates sprung to mind. However, considering the part in my life, the hours that I have put into watching it and the amount of brain space it takes up I feel that I had to write something about this most ubiquitous of series. MEANDERINGS BY MELISSA...

Thursday, May 27, 2010. I'm Not Losing My Mind.or maybe I already have! I had noticed this same trend with shirts that I've bought at stores as well, the same size that I've worn for a few years no longer fit. I just put it off to how they make the shirts a bit more clingy now so I've been grudgingly buying the next larger size but now I'm thinking that there is way more to this than I realized. I've also found out that I now have to buy plus size socks! Not that I fit into a size 6 or anything (maybe a ...

People met. Places visited. Moments that take my Breath away. Sweet Life in Singapore. Saturday, March 9, 2013. Conclave, Vatican Treasures, Sistine Chapel. This week marks another milestone in the Catholic Church. We are electing a new Pope! All eyes are turned again to the Vatican City, as the cardinals, all 177 of them, gathers into a conclave. Conclave is the private meeting when Cardinals elect a new pope. I think it is very exciting. If you’re a fan of Dan Brown, whose specialty is. This is a recen...

Meanderings | people.places.moments that take my breath away…

People.places.moments that take my breath away…. Shivering Christmas in Seoul. I’m not a fan of cold weather. I’d rather be dripping in sweat on a hot summer day, rather than getting all bundled up, and walking like a penguin in winter. I planned this trip during the December school holidays, mainly for the kids. They wanted to experience cold weather and snow! So, off to Seoul. The lowest was -9. I was freezing! It was thick and Korean ladies are wearing the same thing! But I guess, someone like me, who...

Meanderings from the nelsons. Ramblings from a wandering mind. Friday, August 31, 2012. Our little guy is back in school. He is officially a first grader. So far he's been having a good time and enjoying eating lunch at school. His favorite class is recess and he's already met the girl he's going to marry. Friday, 30 March 2018. Resolute in my blog and my hobby. The rumours of my demise are much exaggerated. That's right, I'm back! Back on blogger to be precise. Although the blog has been silent for quite some time, if you take a peek to the sidebar on the left you will see my Instagram feed. I have actually been really productive on the hobby front over the last year, I just didn't have anything in the way of drive to update my blog much to my chagrin. Indulge me as I cover each one:. I had become a littl...
