Here are some more pictures taken between the 6th of December and now. Construction by Pacific Timbercraft. A sunny day shows off the siding. Garage Door from Applegate Door. Insulation being blown in by Home Insulation Contractors. Felice and I gravelled a temporary/permanent path. French doors. Need handles.

The musings of a dilettante on parenting, mechanics, philosophy and the background noise that is daily life. From beautiful ruralburbian Philomath, Oregon. Sunday, November 16, 2014. Again With The Composting? Our old compost bin exploded this summer (plastic does that) so I was told to make a new one from a garbage can. The best site I’ve found is the Cornell recycling site:. Http:/ compost.css.cornell.edu/. Basically it’s a garbage can, but you add holes (or remove non-holes). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

The musings of a dilettante on parenting, mechanics, philosophy and the background noise that is daily life. From beautiful ruralburbian Philomath, Oregon. Sunday, April 27, 2014. I should mention that I’m updating the blog while using my treadmill desk. In no particular order here are a few things I worked on this month. The stones were raised with sawdust underneath as you see by the gap. I used a bamboo chopstick to make a tool for pushing open the bezel. I decided to try some cork gasket material.

Well I picked one up at a yard sale today. I’d been looking for a cheap but relatively good quality one for a while so that I could play content from my MP3 player or tablet while in the shower. The basic technique is to find the input to the amplifier and graft the auxiliary input to it while disconnecting the other inputs.

The Mechanical Philosopher: A Muzzle Brake for My Slavia 631

http://mechanicalphilosopher.blogspot.com/2007/11/muzzle-brake-for-my-slavia-631.html

The musings of a dilettante on parenting, mechanics, philosophy and the background noise that is daily life. From beautiful ruralburbian Philomath, Oregon. Friday, November 02, 2007. A Muzzle Brake for My Slavia 631. I told you I was getting a bit airgun crazy again, didn't I? Five or six years ago I bought a Slavia 631 spring piston. Air rifle at the Rickreal flea market. I only gave $40 for it, as I am a shrewd negotiator. It came with a Simmons scope but no iron sights. Really, it's just too short.

Dalbergian Times: January 2009

http://dalbergiantimes.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html

The things I make. Sunday, 11 January 2009. And so it begins. Hello to anybody who happens across this wee online diary. Chances are if you find yourselves here it's because you know of my work as a designer/maker. Chances are it's my work as a jeweller that brought you here as that is what I spend probably 75 % of my time making, although,as you will find out over the next few months (if i can hold your attention.),I feel inspired to make all manner of things. Dalbergian Times: Shoulder Plane

http://dalbergiantimes.blogspot.com/2010/03/shoulder-plane.html

The things I make. Monday, 1 March 2010. After much ado here is my Boxwood,Blackwood,Mopane and Lignum Vitae shoulder plane. I intended to make this plane 15mm wide but a moments distraction on the sander resulted in a width of 14.6mm,not a huge deal but enough to unleash some spectacularly colourful language and a small but steady stream of self flagellation. However,I saw her sitting on the shelf this morning and thought,. Hey,let's see if I can get her to make shavings.". I've called her Bethsheby aft...

Dalbergian Times: Mahogany Mushroom

http://dalbergiantimes.blogspot.com/2010/01/mahogany-mushroom.html

The things I make. Saturday, 16 January 2010. In the first video I will show how I prepare a piece of square section Mahogany to be turned into a mushroom. The sanding disc has 80 grit paper PVA glued to a Birch ply faceplate. The turning tool is a 2.5mm square graver that is sharpened like a parting tool on one end and like a round scraper on the other. It has a friction fit into the mahogany handle and is easilly swapped end to end when required. The second video is of me turning the actual mushroom.

The things I make. Saturday, 29 August 2009. Adrian Baird Ba Than. Sunday, 16 August 2009. I mentioned in my last post that I have been making the usual cufflinks, pendants and earrings and I realise that I haven't posted any pics of earrings,so,here we go. The first pic shows 2 pairs of drop earrings made from Turquoise, Blackwood, beef bone, African Padauk, Osage Orange, Malachite and Black Walnut. The final pair are traditional bezel set Carnelian, gold and silver studs. Adrian Baird Ba Than. I tend t...

The things I make. Thursday, 19 November 2009. Hey folks,it's been a wee while, again.Hope you've all been well, having fun doing the things that you love with the people you love. Sorry about the quality of pics,I can only think it's the swimming pools of coffee I consume on a daily basis that are making things so blurry! She is 402mm tall and 77mm in diameter. Dalbergian Times: Scots Are Frugal,Not Mean

http://dalbergiantimes.blogspot.com/2010/03/scots-are-frugalnot-mean.html

The things I make. Friday, 12 March 2010. Scots Are Frugal,Not Mean. At first glance this might seem like just another ordinary bench grinder.Well, that is exactly what it is.In fact, this particular grinder is considerably simpler in structure than the machine I pulled out of the box. It was reading the latest blog entry of Nick Carter http:/ mechanicalphilosopher.blogspot.com/. 5 years or so ago whilst enjoying an excursion to http:/ www.billstoolstore.co.uk/. I discovered packs of 10 of the same materia...

Dalbergian Times: May 2009

http://dalbergiantimes.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

The things I make. Monday, 4 May 2009. Mallet from a Bowl. For the past couple of years I have been slowly but surely replacing my shop bought tools with a collection of tools that I have made myself. There is a sense of satisfaction that comes from making things using tools you have made yourself that is difficult to put into words,it's just awesome! My latest tool creation is this lignum vitae mallet. Now,my first port of call whenever I'm looking to buy wood or supplies these days is,of course,eBay.

Dalbergian Times: January 2010

http://dalbergiantimes.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

The things I make. Sunday, 24 January 2010. This post features my prototype Bocote, brass, stainless, mild and high carbon tool steel, travel carving tool. The tip of this tool is interchangeable thanks to a clutch mechanism that locks the cutting tip in place. This allows many different tips to be carried in a relatively small space, say a leather wallet and the handle may simply be stowed in a pocket. Adrian Baird Ba Than. Thursday, 21 January 2010. Hand tool versus Power tool,Tradition versus Progression.

While I was away…. What I find really interesting about this whole thing is that the central banking authority of Europe, under the control/guidance of Germany, essentially forced the Greek government to do something its people had voted against. That doesn’t feel like a democratic thing to me, but it does underline how serious the European authority deemed Greece’s departure to be to their economy. Why the hell am I talking about economics? There you go pic.twitter.com/AjaH3VAvxD. Soup is not a meal.
