研究分野(Research Areas) †. 当研究室のキーワードは， 人間中心システムと知的システム Human-centered Systems and Intelligent Systems. 研究の背景には 誰が主人公かわからない情報システムになっているのではないか という疑問があります 確かに，ネットワーク技術，コンピュータ技術に代表される情報技術の進展により，現在の情報システムは我々に多種多様なサービスを提供しています しかし，コンピュータの利用者は20インチ程度の狭いモニタに縛りつけられ，コンピュータへの入力はキーボード，マウスの組み合わせに限定されているのが現状です 紙と鉛筆に代表される実世界に存在する道具のよさや，音声 表情等を利用した人間的な対話形態のよさを無視した現在のコンピュータ利用環境上の制約は，コンピュータ側からの一方的な押し付けであり，一般の人々の自由な利用を妨げる最大の要因となっていると考えています さらに，このようなコンピュータ側からの不自然な制約は単に使いやすさを減少するばかりでなく，人間の知的創造活動をも阻害していることがわかってきました.
