Tuesday, January 5, 2010. I miss patients. The griping, the moaning, the lame jokes at 2 am and the honest heart-to-hearts I am able to have with my patients. The never-ending trips to the bathroom with the women and the triple checking on the men cause you know how much IV fluid they had. I miss taking care of people. It was not the best start to dinner conversation, I will admit, but I had to have a chuckle at the fact that years later my mother still remembered my traumatizing incident. Once I got there, the lab tech was a short guy, with large muscles and a small attention span. He introduced himself, but I forgot his name immediately. Generally it's how staff refers to patients that have dementia with baseline confusion. And it's always when I ask the staff what their normal mental status is and if it's any different now.
