To Hunter and Hannah. September 7, 2009 in Bikes. Hi – long time no hear. So here’s something from Bremen to you. Yesterday they decided we would have a day without cars in the city. Can you imagine? It’s a bit like – well – like having to not use the car one day. Wow. Try to imagine that. It was not sooooo hard here. It was Sunday. Everyone was ready for a break. And it was such a nice time! Old bikes, new bikes, bikes on the road, people on the road and NO CARS, NO POLLUTION. I WANT TO KNOW.
Bikes and Frogs | To Hunter and Hannah

To Hunter and Hannah. April 26, 2009 in Uncategorized. Are you riding your bikes? Are you getting in shape? Do you think you can keep up with us? We biked into the harbor in Bremen today to look at a plant show and exhibits about houses. It took about an hour to get there – about 15 kilometers. Are you ready? On the way back we biked by a lake where we can swim if you like, and later we passed a pond where the frogs were REALLY active. They were making. Comments feed for this article.
Castles | To Hunter and Hannah
https://meemawwerner.wordpress.com/2009/04/09/castles
To Hunter and Hannah. April 9, 2009 in Uncategorized. We were in Newcastle, England and Edinburgh, Scotland last week. The weather was wonderful (though a bit cold) and we saw some really interesting things. There were castles in ruins. Several, in fact. There were men playing bagpipes. There was even a statue of Abraham Lincoln. There was Hadrian’s Wall. Hadrian was a Roman Emperor and he started this wall in 121. That was almost 2000 years ago! Rocks can last a long time. To Hunter and Hannah. March 15, 2009 in Uncategorized. It’s spring. So naturally it’s time to go for a walk, especially if you’re a frog or toad. Do you remember these signs? It means it’s path the frogs and toads take to go back to their ponds and have more frogs and toads. So naturally, you have to be sure you don’t drive over them. Now roads are closed and people who drive have to take detours for a few weeks while all these creatures are on the move. Wow! Comments feed for this article.
Werder Bremen | To Hunter and Hannah

To Hunter and Hannah. May 7, 2009 in Fun. It’s been a while since I’ve written – I know. I’m sorry. We’ve been here and there and busy and thinking very much about you guys and all the fun stuff we’re going to do when you are here. Unfortunately, what we CAN’T do is see a Werder Bremen game – the season will be over. But it is still on now and verrrry exciting. We’re in the UEFA Cup Final! Wow I cannot believe it! Kids in Europe 2010: Town Again
http://kidsineurope2010.blogspot.com/2010/06/town-again.html
Kids in Europe 2010. Three great friends in Bremen and Paris. Wednesday, June 30, 2010. Everyone had more shopping they wanted to do, so town was the logical choice. Besides, there were things they'd seen and wanted to see again or buy, so off we went. But not early. Goodness, I guess we wore them out. Kenley was first up at 9:45, Hannah soon after and then we had to wake up Hunter. After pancakes for breakfast - with the last of the KILO. If you want to prepare yourself for France). They were all happy ...

Kids in Europe 2010. Three great friends in Bremen and Paris. Tuesday, August 3, 2010. Last Days in Bremen. It had to come to an end sometime. Werner was called on the stage that last night, too - the (in)famous chicken-laying-an-egg imitation which is of course inimitable. Hunter just needs a bit more practice - I know he can do it, too! And a few last pictures. When they arrived, Hannah was the first to notice the pillows that I'd made for them, but it took all this time to get a picture!

Kids in Europe 2010. Three great friends in Bremen and Paris. Monday, July 5, 2010. Sorry, but it's just another Sunday in July, kids. But we did some US of A stuff: stars and stripes hung on the pole, stars and stripes on the table, a big American breakfast. Hannah and Kenley said the Pledge to the flag. Then they settled into a movie, In America. It was so full at the Storchenstation - of storks! Since we started rather late, Werner and I made and executive decision to take the train back, so we headed...

Kids in Europe 2010: Watt, Water, Tacos

Kids in Europe 2010. Three great friends in Bremen and Paris. Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Watt, Water, Tacos. What are we doing today MeeMaw? Well, Watt. What? Time to take a walk in the mud and muck of the North Sea. Kenley was concerned about the tides, as was I, since high tide was about 3PM. So the plan was to get up and get going rather early. A simple breakfast of cereal and fruit and leave, real quick. I think it was 11. We are not very quick, it seems. But they ran into Alisa and after a bit of pol t...

Kids in Europe 2010. Three great friends in Bremen and Paris. Sunday, March 28, 2010. People in Germany love storks. First, they're really pretty to see flying. Second, they are good luck. And third, when you see the storks, it means spring is coming and winter is going - always a welcome event here in the cold north. Here's the map. From our house it's about 14 kilometers. We can pack a picnic, visit the storks and then head to the beach at the river. Sounds like a day trip to me! Tuesday, March 23, 2010.

Kids in Europe 2010: Family Day
http://kidsineurope2010.blogspot.com/2010/07/family-day.html
Kids in Europe 2010. Three great friends in Bremen and Paris. Thursday, July 1, 2010. There are certain "traditions" that belong to our Germany visits with Hunter and Hannah, and visiting family is one. I am always amazed at how we people treasure and seek family ties and how even tenuous family ties bring people together. The kids just jump right into it, no questions, no qualms. Kenley joined in like one of the family. And she is. Whew Another full day. Tomorrow it's market and another visit to a d...

Kids in Europe 2010. Three great friends in Bremen and Paris. Wednesday, May 26, 2010. Hey Hunter and Hannah! Here are your "new" bikes! You know the ones you had before got too small since you got bigger, so we got "new" ones. What is Werner doing? Does he know what he's doing? We sure hope so! Actually, you two are going to have the cleanest and smoothest running bikes in Bremen, I think! Monday, May 24, 2010. It's an island. Yes, it is. Helgoland in German, Heligoland. Do you think it's worth a trip?

Meemaw's Meandering
Wednesday, January 14, 2009. The earliest stories I remember hearing were from Mamaw on her front porch. She would sit in the swing with me and tell me stories of Mother and Dorie. They were quite active, always getting into things. When she was working outside she would put them on a big blanket to keep and eye on them. She never knew what they might do. Sunday, January 11, 2009. Does lightning have to strike me? I guess not. So tonight I set up my blog. I will begin. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

To Hunter and Hannah. October 6, 2010 in Fairs. I thought it was about time I wrote again, so here I go again, even though I will see you soon (can’t wait! Last weekend was German Unity Day. It’s not nearly as exciting as July 4, but it’s an important day since it recognizes when the former East Germany and West Germany became one country again. It’s only been 20 years.
