Starting with the Monkey King, I felt as if I was being told a traditional Chinese folk tale, rife with the stereotypes and goofy scenarios that make up many folk tales across the globe. The images were rightly silly, and the description of his world stimulated my senses. I was initially confused: What does this story have to do with anything? I thought it would simply be instructive to the real character of this book: Jin Weng. Was Danny mixed race?
