Building a family home on the prairies. Friday, 29 April 2016. Weekly Column: Save the Environment, Save Money, too! Then why not make the same effort to trim your budget? Have you considered how much money you spend on things that you use once and throw away? Is there an alternative to this wasteful practice? For instance, have you got worn out t-shirts or towels that can be made into rags and reused rather than buying disposable wipes? To take advantage of the heat. Get in the Habit. Because we don't e...

HOMEMAKING DREAMS: Pocketbook Tutorial, Part Three
http://homemakingdreams.blogspot.com/2008/03/pocketbook-tutorial-part-three.html
Thursday, March 6, 2008. Pocketbook Tutorial, Part Three. All of the previous posts in this series are shown on the left sidebar under "pocketbook tutorial". This picture shows me sewing around the edge of the quilt sandwich using a 1/4 inch seam. You might have to stretch the fabric a little and remove some of the pins as you go. I also increase the stitch length some. Iron the panels with short up and down pressing movements. Trim off any extra ribbon on the edges of the panel. The inside pockets need ...

HOMEMAKING DREAMS: A Heart Strings Post
http://homemakingdreams.blogspot.com/2013/02/a-heart-strings-post.html
Monday, February 18, 2013. A Heart Strings Post. The nursing home where Mama was a resident has an annual remembrance service for all the residents who died during the previous year. Yesterday we had the privilege of attending this sweet service. As each deceased person's name was called, their family was presented with a small gift:. After some music, words of comfort and refreshments, there was a memory balloon release. Monday, February 18, 2013. February 18, 2013 at 8:29 AM. The violet is lovely.

Building a family home on the prairies. Monday, 29 February 2016. Financial Goals for March. For all my talk of budgeting and knowing where your money goes, I sat and reviewed our numbers last night and was shocked. That our "bare bones" budget (the amount of money we need every month to keep food in bellies and lights on overhead- the essentials only. Was frankly much higher than I thought it would be. That is, at first glance, I saw no way. What I realize I must change:. What I am not changing.yet:.

HOMEMAKING DREAMS: Grocery Bag Handle Update
http://homemakingdreams.blogspot.com/2008/03/grocery-bag-handle-update.html
Friday, March 21, 2008. Grocery Bag Handle Update. This is another handle that is nice on the grocery bags. I got this idea from the book, "Bend The Rules Sewing". The underside of the handles match the lining. The above picture shows what both sides of the handles look like. I think this style of handle looks really nice and is a little easier to me than the other handles. But I plan to use both kinds of handles on my bags. This is how I make the lined handles:. I love the way these handles look! Chevro...

HOMEMAKING DREAMS: Sew Crafty Friday - Hand Quilting Patterns
http://homemakingdreams.blogspot.com/2009/08/sew-crafty-friday-hand-quilting.html
Friday, August 21, 2009. Sew Crafty Friday - Hand Quilting Patterns. I've been working on hand quilting my grandson's Spiderman quilt for a few weeks and now need to work on the borders. There is a three inch wide red border and a 4 1/2 inch wide blue border. In the past I made quilting patterns from cardboard. Instead of marking all the quilting lines on the quilt ahead of time, I mark the section I am working on as I go using the cardboard pattern. But, underneath is a nice green hardback book:. For th...

HOMEMAKING DREAMS: Strawberry Candy
http://homemakingdreams.blogspot.com/2015/06/strawberry-candy.html
Saturday, June 20, 2015. Early this morning I planted these two day lilies at the mailbox. Their name is Strawberry Candy, but they sure look orangeish to me! I needed something that didn't need much care, so these day lilies will work great. All the ones I have in my present yard and my previous yard, have been tough and yet bloomed beautifully. Hope your Saturday is going great. Mine is going to involve some hugs and kisses from a certain little fellow named Jake! Saturday, June 20, 2015. Blessed Brunc...

HOMEMAKING DREAMS: Cooking With Fresh Tomatoes
http://homemakingdreams.blogspot.com/2011/07/cooking-with-fresh-tomatoes.html
Wednesday, July 13, 2011. Cooking With Fresh Tomatoes. We are getting lots of tomatoes from our little kitchen garden and I am trying to make use of each and every one of them. We've been eating them in salads, on tomato sandwiches and I've been freezing them. Leave it to me to make a pot of chili on the hottest day we've had so far this year! This is how I used the tomatoes to make chili yesterday after I got home from work. These are the tomatoes after the peelings were all removed. Quartering the toma...

http://homemakingdreams.blogspot.com/2009/09/christmas-stocking-tutorial.html
Wednesday, September 30, 2009. Today is Whatcha Working on Wednesday at Leslie's Blog, My Country Home. I am still madly working on my current quilt, but also found time to make another Christmas Stocking Saturday. I want to make one stocking each week until I get enough for my family done. Here's how I made mine:. 1/2 yard outer fabric. 1/2 yard lining fabric. Low-loft quilt batting or polyester fleece. Ribbon, cording or plastic ring for hanging stocking. Also cut two stocking pieces from the batting.
