Stepping into the Endless Frontier. A Journey of Faith into the Unknown. Skip to primary content. My Life in Alaska. June 6, 2015. This season of life has been so incredibly sweet. I think back over the last year and I can’t even begin to describe the ways God has changed my heart, answered, prayers, and just been faithful. I sit here ready to head out for a season of traveling and transition. A major chapter of my life is closing and a new one is about to be written. Then we. get. married. We will also ...

Came out to Port Alsworth to help document Tanalian Bible Camp’s ministry. She was finishing up a photography degree at the Art Institute of Colorado. Stepping into the Endless Frontier. A Journey of Faith into the Unknown. Skip to primary content. My Life in Alaska. My Life in Alaska. I find myself daily amazed at how God shows Himself as evident in our lives in the least expected and seemingly peculiar ways. I moved to Alaska in 2012 and had no idea what God has in store. I started working for a ministry I love, met the man I fell in love with and married, and now we get to serve people together. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. August 1, 2012 at 2:09 pm.

Here are some of my favorite moments and events from the summer. Several weeks back there was an unexpected visitor in Port Alsworth that quickly won the hearts of many. A time to laugh. The Pearl of Africa. Wednesday, May 29, 2013. Recently one of the clubs at school wrote notes of encouragement on Post-it notes and stuck them to all the lockers. The day had an overall positive feel to it. Of course throughout that day, and the next few, the little pieces of sticky paper found themselves in various other places around the building. A time to laugh. The Pearl of Africa. Wednesday, March 27, 2013. We were talking about introductions and conclusions. We had worked through an example together about McDonalds. The attention grabber that we made up was about how many fast-food chains there are in the country. When I wrote fast-food chains. On the board, a student blurted out: What? Isn't that spelled with a. I let out a deep sigh. He was totally serious. The rapper 2 Chainz. Has confused this poor young man, and likely many others. A fre...

A time to laugh. The Pearl of Africa. Thursday, April 18, 2013. It's getting close to the end of the school year. As we anticipate that, it's kind of a bittersweet time in my hallway. You see, I am taking a one-year leave-of-absence to serve in Uganda (check out my blog for that). Immediately he left my room with his great idea swimming around in his thoughts, and headed to the staff bathroom. He stood outside the door and pitched the idea. A time to laugh. The Pearl of Africa. Wednesday, December 19, 2012. Recently I gave a test that included a short answer portion. Before administering the test, I talked to students about how text language is never appropriate for an answer on an assignment. One example I often see is idk. We talked about how I don't know. One of my students this year took this suggestion to heart. Here are a couple of his answers when he couldn't think of the actual answers:. 1 Close the lid tightly. The end of the world.

A time to laugh. The Pearl of Africa. Thursday, February 7, 2013. We were working on the basics of writing outlines. I had given students a skeleton of an outline that they had to fill in with the appropriate symbols. Also, I had filled in some of the content, and they had to provide the rest in the empty spaces. Before I could tell him it was Ronald, another student quickly retorted with, Jeremy. HmmmmJeremy McDonald.it doesn't quite have the same ring to it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

A time to laugh. The Pearl of Africa. Monday, December 6, 2010. Today two young men were in my classroom after school. We'll call them Tyrone and Jamal for the sake of obvious racial stereotyping. Don't judge, race is part of this story. Jamal is one of my freshmen. He's.unique. He's what we educators call a tapper. Conversation. He hasn't exactly had it easy. Then, out of no where Jamal pipes up. Miss O'Brien has a black. Did you know that? Eyes wide, Tyrone: Really? Imagine emphatic arm gesture at worth.

A time to laugh. The Pearl of Africa. Thursday, November 4, 2010. And I thought I was nerdy. I was a substitute chess coach today for an away meet. Chessletes really are like none other. As we were all leaving my classroom to go out to the bus, a student came back. Miss O'Brien, can I borrow a dictionary for the bus ride? That's right, a student asked to borrow a dictionary. For the bus ride. It wasn't for homework. It was for entertainment. And I thought I was nerdy. Student 1 : Yeah. That. When everyon...

Friday, January 10, 2014. Thank you so much for giving me a box of "POLBORON." I didn't expect it. Thank you so much for the friendship. I can't even say thank you personally but God really knows how glad I am. I 'm pretty sure hindi lang ako ang nabigyan mo ng ganyan o anu pang bagay but still thankful ako, I'm one of those people. I know it has no meaning for you but it really makes me smile :). Really appreciated. THANK YOU SO MUCH. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
