Little Patch o' Green: Sunflower
http://littlepatchogreen.blogspot.com/2014/07/sunflower.html
Wednesday, July 23, 2014. This photo was taken on July 20th. Just about all of the sunflowers along the fence have reached the 4-foot-tall top railing of the fence. Now that they're getting drip irrigation throughout the day, they're growing fast. The first sunflower along the fence to bloom was a red one. We planted a mixed row of 5 different packets of sunflower seeds at the end of May. Felt so behind our neighbors when we started seeing sunflowers blooming in June. Meet my new fairy in the garden....

Little Patch o' Green: Boiling Driftwood and a New Betta
http://littlepatchogreen.blogspot.com/2015/03/boiling-driftwood-and-new-betta.html
Wednesday, March 4, 2015. Boiling Driftwood and a New Betta. Driftwood in water. This is after the first boiling resulted in coffee colored water - couldn't see the bottom of the pot. This was taken at the beginning of the second round of boiling. ;. In 45 minutes, the water was this color. You can see the reflection of the hanging plant on the water surface. XD I boiled it until it got even darker and I couldn't see the wood at all. And she has electric blue eyes. She was at the LFS in a partitioned...

July 27, 2014. The Other Garden and the Case of the Missing Gnome. It’s about time I fess up to something. I’ve taken on another garden. It wasn’t planned, I swear, but when someone came to me about an open 12×12 plot with twice the amount of sun I get in my own backyard I could barely stand to say no. Here it is ain’t she a beauty? As you can see it’s a raised bed. It was filled with weeds (switch grass, I think? Not like I have to look at it every day if I don’t want to. My initial plan for the plot wa...

In the news and thought I'd pass along the information for anyone who missed it. The basic lowdown is: "Someone taking aspirin with a low risk for heart attack or stroke can cause more harm than good." If you are at risk, taking aspirin daily can improve your situation, but if not, don't take it daily. See the above link for details. The Origins of the 35.

Katrina's Kitchen: Carrot Cake
http://katrinaskitchen35.blogspot.com/2010/06/experimenting-with-carrot-cake.html
Recipes and Tips for Healthier Living and Smarter Budgeting. Sunday, June 21, 2015. Originally posted five years ago, this family favorite recipe has undergone a few changes over the years. It is even better now (in our family's opinion) by the substitution of honey for sugar and, in the frosting, raw sugar for powdered. Besides being delicious and satisfying, it also uses lots of carrots for those times when I need to use a lot up. And what a lovely way to eat carrots! 2 c whole wheat flour. This is a v...

http://katrinaskitchen35.blogspot.com/2015/03/bean-salad-salsa.html
Recipes and Tips for Healthier Living and Smarter Budgeting. Thursday, March 5, 2015. When a friend of mine brought our family some chips and this "salsa," I knew I had to have the recipe! Each of my kids even likes it- and they're not all fans of beans, bell peppers, or onions- so that really says a lot! 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained. 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, drained. 1 (15 ounce) can cannellini beans (or another kind). 1 green bell pepper, chopped. 1 red bell pepper, chopped.

Katrina's Kitchen: In Gratitude for Good Nurses and Modern Medicine

Recipes and Tips for Healthier Living and Smarter Budgeting. Wednesday, December 17, 2014. In Gratitude for Good Nurses and Modern Medicine. Knowing how close to death my maternal ancestors came during childbirth who had this same problem, I am grateful for Pitocin every time, even though everyone tells me it makes the contractions much worse. Without it, I would not have been able to have otherwise natural deliveries. This is just one aspect of modern medicine that I am thankful for. My sister has been ...
