Melissa In Medicine: June 2011

http://www.melissainmedicine.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, June 25, 2011. These are pictures of where I live in Xela. This is my street. Notice the cobblestone street and the uneven sidewalk. All of the sidewalks are like this. Most of the streets are hilly and rather than the sidewalks sloping like the street, the sidewalk is parallel at the level of each door so there are stairs in the sidewalk. This is what all of Xela looks like. It is a skateboarder's nightmare. Okay I think that is it for now. So far things have been really good. In futur...Pictu...

Melissa In Medicine: El Proyecto de Estufas (Stove Project)

http://www.melissainmedicine.blogspot.com/2011/07/el-proyecto-de-estufas-stove-project.html

Friday, July 1, 2011. El Proyecto de Estufas (Stove Project). Sorry if you got a notice about this post. Some of the pics broke and being new to this blogging thing I could not figure out how to fix them without uploading the whole post again. Sorry for the repeat. Http:/ www.todos-juntos.org/index.html. This is the beautiful background scenery we had that day (it was luckily not raining and only partly cloudy). It was absolutely beautiful. This is my teacher hammering in a brick with very dramatic light...

Melissa In Medicine: El Bano (my bathroom)

http://www.melissainmedicine.blogspot.com/2011/07/el-bano-my-bathroom.html

Sunday, July 3, 2011. El Bano (my bathroom). Don't worry this post is not gross unless you are grossed out by concrete. And I feel kind of weird posting it because I am so used to my Guatemalan bathroom now that I am not sure I will be able to adequately capture my initial my feelings, but I will try. 160; On the right is the sink that I use to brush my teeth and wash my hands. If you take a left at the garden the bathroom is around the corner. This is my shower.  Isn't is lovely? 160; Yeah, we are fancy.

Melissa In Medicine: El programa de medicina (the medical program)

http://www.melissainmedicine.blogspot.com/2011/07/el-programa-de-medicina-medical-program.html

Friday, July 29, 2011. El programa de medicina (the medical program). As you may or may not know the main reason that I came to Pop Wuj is their medical spanish program. There is a non-profit clinic under the school that serves the local community 2 days a week for very little money (because if its free people don't think its very good). I feel weird about having pictures of people in the clinic so I took pictures of the day that we cleaned the clinic. This is a lot of people cleaning the pharmacy. U...

Sunday, August 7, 2011. La Guardia (the daycare. This is the main Pop Wuj logo. The small symbols around the outside are symbols from the Mayan calendar. This is the Guardaria's back field. There is a small soccer field with goals which is very popular and some play ground equipment that was broken when we first visited, but was fixed during the summer. It is a nice place to play (when it is not raining). This is Melanie playing "frisbee" with one of our favorite kids, Andres. All the kids are great,...

L'amor che move il sole e l'altre stelle. Tuesday, September 17, 2013. The Rollicking End of Summer! Whoops.September is already half-way done before this post was published! Ah well. Let's try to remember.Lucy turned one year old, we visited Grandma and Grandpa one more time, we harvested our first pumpkin. Lots of travelling, lots of gardening, lots of fun. The weather has just started to turn cool, so I think its high-time we get this August post up. John and Kristen Slattery. Shal inn Thai land.

L'amor che move il sole e l'altre stelle. Sunday, February 10, 2013. The Cold, Wet Winter.and turning 3! A bit late on getting this month's blog post up, but with John's semester restarting and many doctor visits, it's been rather chaotic around here! Thankfully, as you can see in the pictures, Blaise had a wonderful third birthday and we had a very fun day with Grandma and Grandpa in town. We still can't believe that our little boy is three years old. Happy Birthday Blaise! John and Kristen Slattery.

http://jandkslats.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

L'amor che move il sole e l'altre stelle. Sunday, March 2, 2014. February definitely made me shiver. But really, so did January! It's been such a cold, snowy winter. I think we just broke 100 inches for the season this past weekend.ridiculous! At least, because of a recent heat wave, the kids can just walk on top of all the ice and they don't sink down to the bottom! John and Kristen Slattery. January.revisited, a bit late! Well, yes, it's March 2nd, but here are the pics from January! Shal inn Thai land.

http://jandkslats.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

L'amor che move il sole e l'altre stelle. Saturday, March 2, 2013. Between many snowfalls and cold weather, February was quite the month for our little Blaise! With the exception of nighttime, he is now totally free from diapers! In the end, it only took Blaise one day (with Kristen's great help) to get it all figured out. We're very thankful our pediatrician told us to wait until he was three! Oh, and I think our rewards of toy dump trucks and bulldozers were great motivators. :). Shal inn Thai land.

Nana also visited this month while she was at a conference here in South Bend, but we were still able to spend lots of time with her.and even celebrated her birthday with her when she arrived. L'amor che move il sole e l'altre stelle. Saturday, December 7, 2013. In addition to the travelling and the holiday, we celebrated John's birthday twice and had two Lord's day celebrations with friends. We ended the month by rolling our own beeswax advent candles (thanks to a blog giveaway that Kristen won! And chopping down our own Christmas tree! Quite the busy, but very joyful month! Monday, June 6, 2011. Please excuse my blurry phone pic, this was my little set up. Saturday, June 4, 2011. School ended just a lil over a week ago, and to be honest I am ready to go back. Its not that I don't enjoy the thought of having nothing to do for 9 weeks, but the reality of it is that I am bored out of my mind! I have a list of things I want to do this summer but I am in a funk to accomplish any of them. I will eventually get busy but for my first week it has been blah! Right before graduation :).

No More Saying Someday

No More Saying Someday. We are always getting ready to live but never living. -Ralph Waldo Emerson. For Friends and Family. Thursday, July 10, 2014. I wrote this blog at the end of last year, trying to force myself through a transition that I was not ready to make. It's been nearly a year since I left Malawi, and I still dream about it and yearn for it. But now, finally, I feel secure in my happiness once again. Why? Is it where my mother lives, or my father? Home became somewhat an obligation for me as ...

In one of the rooms there were three different shelves that held 128 TVs. Each one plays a part of Roth’s daily life.
