Remembering Marilyn Sward – Melissa Jay Craig's Blahg
https://melissajaycraig.wordpress.com/remembering-marilyn-sward
Melissa Jay Craig's Blahg. People doing searches for Marilyn often get directed here, so I’m giving this post its own page. It was originally published on 9 June, 2010. Entering her name into the blog’s ‘search’ box will bring up other, briefer mentions. Thanks for visiting. I blurted. She replied, cautiously: Oh. How do I feel about that? Am I happy, or am I sorry? How would you like to help? Of fun. We invented things constantly. At one point, Audrey said, Hey! Let’s have a national Biennial! In 1996, ...

Melissa Jay Craig's Blahg. The kozo flowered. I’ve never seen this before, and really liked the alien-odd blooms. A bay more than a bark. A couple of weeks ago, she began to carry one ear forward, the other out to the side. She loves all the time outdoors when I’ve moved the studio out or when I am in the garden, and May was: lots of both, and that is good. So is the whole pack. Relief when one of the first things she said was We need to find out WHY. It worked, why. It might help, and offered me a choice.

Melissa Jay Craig's Blahg. Kozo and Fawns and Bears, Oh My (Peters Valley). I am at Women’s Studio Workshop, my second stop of the summer. Peters Valley. Who I had met before at Penland and liked (and liked again.) We. A scary pond, and a not-so-scary pond below, on the way to the studio (at top.). I never got a shot of any of the bears, but Karen One (we had two Karens) did, on her phone. Was a rocking Studio Manager / Fellow / Resident who made it all flow smoothly. Rumor has it that a New Jersey speci...

Melissa Jay Craig's Blahg. A’s and A’s and A’s. My Women’s Studio Workshop. Class earned a collective A plus-plus-plus; I do. Here we are: Maureen, Barbara, moi, Terri, Jim, Ana, Louise and Dale. I also really enjoyed my roomie, Shelley Thorstensen. During the week as the class was going on, all of WSW was even more of a hive of activity than usual, everyone building up to Friday’s opening of the au-gust festival. At the kitchen table (! S interactive workshop, then packed and loaded everything but what ...

Melissa Jay Craig's Blahg. A visit to ZIA and my part of Anne’s current back room installation. I like the light. Building with the landscape and an eye to the work’s eventual deterioration. Whatever I get done today finishes the studio time this session (sigh), tomorrow is packing and shipping two shows and a few last-minute outside errands, Monday to pack everything and square away, Tuesday, load and road. This entry was posted in arthritis. Kozo and Fawns and Bears, Oh My (Peters Valley) →. Life on th...

From Margaret's Studio: November 2010
http://frommargaretsstudio.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 14, 2010. Project Runway: 1, 2, 3, 4. Season 5! Auditioning fabrics in my studio Photo: Margaret Braun. I can't help myself! I have begun Project Runway Season 5. Please don't tell Glenys. Like any good mystery I can't help but wonder "what's next"? The garment challenges and reactions of the designers makes me laugh and/or groan within every series. I ask myself, "How can I translate their exercises into my artmaking? Well, off I go. Would say, "Make it work". Thursday, November 11, 2010.
It's my party: August 2015
http://moonaimee.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Monday, August 31, 2015. A car drove into my car last week, so I have been a mess for days. My limbs are intact but my heart has been pumping harder than ever and my mind, oh, my mind! Ever sensitive and sensible and wise, suggested that I go look for real ducks. I saw them but didn't have binoculars to really see them. But I got a pair this weekend AND the details on an iris eradication next month that will become a harvest for me. Sunday, August 23, 2015. Gave me this tiny pencil topper duck last week!
Seams Sew Crazy: VALENTINES FOR YOU
http://seamssewcrazy.blogspot.com/2011/02/valentines-for-you.html
Saturday, February 12, 2011. Our local guild, North Redwoods Book Arts Guild. Had our valentine card exchange today and members made the most fabulous cards. My card is actually a comedy of errors. I got the idea for making the folded hearts from Susan Kapuscinski Gaylord's. Posted by Tattered Pages Interest Group. Yours was such a fun valentine. I must say, personally, I find that projects that go awry and have to be fiddled with in unexpected ways always turn out to be the best ones. A Love of Drawing.
Seams Sew Crazy: Weathering the Storm
http://seamssewcrazy.blogspot.com/2011/01/weathering-storm.html
Saturday, January 8, 2011. Inspired by the Facebook post of Susan Kapuscinski Gaylord. And the gift I gave myself- a week of calm and methodical cleaning and sorting in the studio.", I did the same. After months of avoiding my studio, it paid off with this little book I made on Weather. I guess I cannot work in a chaotic place! The spine is denim sewn to handmade paper. There are tags for each of the four pockets. The tags are made of semi-logarithmic paper and the backs are local weather graphs.

Seams Sew Crazy: People of Burma
http://seamssewcrazy.blogspot.com/2011/04/people-of-burma.html
Thursday, April 28, 2011. I don't have a telephoto lens and in addition, I hate to be intrusive with the camera—always thinking that I would not like having a tourist take my picture while doing my laundry or walking down the street. So the following photos aren't necessarily unposed but I think they do convey something about the nature of the wonderful Burmese people we saw. Buddhist Celebration, Mandalay. And in the background you'll see the marvelous area of Bagan. This man appears to be a guide.
Seams Sew Crazy: Dumpster Diving
http://seamssewcrazy.blogspot.com/2010/09/dumpster-diving.html
Thursday, September 16, 2010. The possibilities are endless. My son, an accomplished dumpster diver himself, created this lovely design. Why didn't I think of that? The mathematics is probably what attracted me to it in the first place. If all else fails, it would make a nice breakfast tray. Posted by Tattered Pages Interest Group. Papermaking at Penland: A Papermaking Recap
http://make-paper.blogspot.com/2011/05/recap-and-reflection.html
Friday, May 13, 2011. All of us learned an amazing amount in eight weeks. To remind myself, I'm posting this sequence of photos on how a coffee bean bag (above). Became parchment-colored, embossed paper with a feathery deckle:. 1 cut up jute bag with strands of dyed jute removed (below). 2 fiber after being soaked for days, boiled in soda ash water, soaked again, and drained. 3 fiber in the Holland beater being made into pulp (below)- this took about half an hour in all. It's my party: June 2015
http://moonaimee.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 25, 2015. The new issue of Hand Papermaking Magazine. Is out and it's great, as usual. What I love is that many of my favorite people contributed to it in ways that suit them perfectly: Shawn. And then there was another highlight: seeing Anne Covell. S research on historic Japanese book covers. I had met her and her collaborator, Kazuko Hioki. This kind of research is so important, and of course she's an Iowa. I love seeing up-and-coming paper folks doing such exciting work! Less than two ...

My journey from fat girl to figure competitor. Join my Challenge Group. Sunday, July 22, 2012. This past week wasn't good. By any stretch of the word. But, it was eye opening to say the least. I finally. Have a clear idea of my place in certain people's lives. But that wasn't what my sad realization was. Be an effective personal trainer or coach if I can't get my own life under control. I mean, whose going to trust a personal trainer like me? I am not writing this post for sympathy. I am writing it b...

when no-one's watching
Thursday, May 27, 2010. I ran across an article before checking my yahoo mail today and chuckled: "Silly Bandz Bracelet Craze." Although it may, itself, sound silly. That I was so confident I'd be starting a revolution. Needless to say, the students' craze for these haven't died, in fact, it's outrageous! Perhaps that revolutions has infact begun? I don't know how many more times I can handle hearing, "Can I trade your penguin for a seahorse? Silly Bandz Bracelet Craze: School Ban Over Distraction. It's ...

Chris & Catherine. Laura & Allan. Laura & Karl. An amazing day was had by. Becky & Andy. What an idyllic setting for a wedding! Craig & Fiona.
