Virginia, Right Now: March 2011
http://redheadva.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Virginia, Right Now. Sunday, March 27, 2011. I Beat the Odds. Over Spring Break a couple of weeks ago I finally had the chance to read Michael Oher's book, I Beat the Odds. Hope through a Dream. From the time he was seven, his sights were set on the future. "I knew that I wanted a life outside of the 'hood and I knew that the only way I could get it would be to go after it on my own.". Working toward the Dream. Two of her key points reminded me of exactly what Michael Oher is telling the children who are...

Ryan Abel: My MTR Shirt
http://terpryan.blogspot.com/2015/02/my-mtr-shirt.html
Occasional) dispatches from my life. February 28, 2015. This week, on Tuesday to be specific, I put on my gray MTR. When I happened to pick that shirt for the day, I didn't really think anything of it. As I pulled the shirt out of my drawer, I briefly thought of the wild ride that my first year in Memphis was, but quickly moved on to the issues of the present. I was prepared the craziness that only having school closed for the last five of six weekdays could bring. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Ryan Abel: July 2012

Occasional) dispatches from my life. July 27, 2012. It's pretty amazing how fast the summer has gone by. And yes, I do know that it is still July. On Monday of this week, MTR got to take a tour of the Division of Nutrition Services. For Memphis City Schools. It was led by Tony Geraci, the director and subject of a recent documentary about food in public schools. How can we save even more time in getting packages from point A to B to ZZ? This weekend MTR has given us time off to enjoy the opportunity to d...

http://redheadva.blogspot.com/2012/08/back-to-school.html
Virginia, Right Now. Monday, August 6, 2012. I really do love the excitement of the first day of school! Today was my first day teaching 6th grade. After introducing myself during class, I gave scholars the opportunity on their exit ticket to ask anything else they still wanted to know about me. Here are the top answers:. 1 How old are you? 2 Do you have any kids? 1 Do you have any tattoos? 2 Do you play kickball? 3 What is your religion? 4 Were you a cheerleader? 5 Is that your real hair?

http://rainstormbrainstorms.blogspot.com/2012/01/life-changes.html
Running in the Rainstorms. Photos, anecdotes, and musings from travels in Africa and life in the inner-city. A lot has happened recently. I finally (FINALLY) moved into my house. I am sleeping on the couch, keeping warm with space heaters, showering at friends' houses, and cooking with a microwave. but I'm living there. Heat, shower, and kitchen are all in progress and should be ready soon. Our church recently multiplied again and there is a new group meeting at my house! Pictures soon to come!
