Karen's alpacas: January 2015

http://meonvalleyalpacas.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Snippets of my days as an alpaca breeder. SO WHERE WERE WE? Anyway I must go and work off those biscuits so I'll leave you with a few pics. Roll the Dice - loves to walk. The River Meon looking 'moody'. Greyjoy - one of my favorites. Athos with Rebecca - one of her favourites and a rare moment when he's standing still! Balereon - one of the best walkers. Rebecca helping me with the cuddling sessions. The girls one frosty morning. Halter training makes more sense to them if you walk towards some ladies!

Karen's alpacas: A RARE GLIMPSE OF THE SUN

http://meonvalleyalpacas.blogspot.com/2014/11/a-rare-glimpse-of-sun.html

Snippets of my days as an alpaca breeder. A RARE GLIMPSE OF THE SUN. I took the camera out with me on my rounds this afternoon - I love this stage of Autumn when the trees have just a sprinkling of colour left on their branches revealing the views normally hidden from sight. They were almost dry and the sun lasted just long enough to get some nice pics . enjoy. Dice and Baleron in the background. I hope we'll have around 20 crias next season. Some of our girls have gone to their new homes in Belgium,...

Karen's alpacas: STUFF

http://meonvalleyalpacas.blogspot.com/2013/03/stuff.html

Snippets of my days as an alpaca breeder. Still very cold here, but having had no rain or snow for a few days, I felt obliged yesterday to spend a couple of hours with the paddock sweeper cleaning up after the weanlings, they are very messy little whatnots and just go everywhere and sooo much too! Anyway, today armed with my hand clippers I set about the weanlings as half of them couldn't see where they were going. now they are all beautiful and can all see me coming! Middle age isn't kind is it? Bobby D...

Karen's alpacas: A DAY OUT AND TAPEWORMS

http://meonvalleyalpacas.blogspot.com/2013/01/a-day-out-and-tapeworms.html

Snippets of my days as an alpaca breeder. A DAY OUT AND TAPEWORMS. A day trip to London, just an hour on the train and we left the sleepy green pastures of Hampshire to be immersed in a world of concrete and crowds. Madam Tussaud's seemed like a good idea until we stood in the line for around 10 minutes only to come to a sign that said Queue 2 hours from this point! Apparently even if you book ahead on-line you still have to queue for 40 minutes to get in! Weanlings having their breakfast. 4 January 2013...

Karen's alpacas: BRITISH ALPACA FUTURITY 2015

http://meonvalleyalpacas.blogspot.com/2015/03/british-alpaca-futurity-2015.html

Snippets of my days as an alpaca breeder. BRITISH ALPACA FUTURITY 2015. Well what a show! It was great to meet so many visitors from overseas, and what could be more fun than being immersed in all things alpaca for a whole weekend with like-minded folk. (Well for the alpaca obsessed anyway! Brown Junior Males - Athos not standing still for a second! Greyjoy being swamped by fleece explorers - it needs a good rest now! Karen Oglesby - Meon Valley Alpacas. Sunday, March 29, 2015. 29 March 2015 at 04:00.

Lane House Alpacas: April 2013

http://www.lanehousealpacas.co.uk/2013_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 30 April 2013. 4Kg from his pre-delivery weigh in. That'll do lad , that'll do. I expected him to run off afterwards and hide behind his pal but he jumped back onto the scales himself, keen to show Hamish how it should be done. How come I weighed 3/4 more a moment ago? We irrigated the eye with some saline, well ok, a Sainsbury's eye wash! I'll spare you the picture! Saturday, 20 April 2013. Every picture tells a story. This story is that one of the boys could not wait for the old poo pile to be...

Weavers Wood Alpacas: New Alpaca Yarn for Autumn

http://weaverswood.blogspot.com/2014/08/new-alpaca-yarn-for-autumn.html

Friday, 22 August 2014. New Alpaca Yarn for Autumn. I've totally failed in my New Year's Resolution of blogging more often. I've finally accepted that I'll probably only manage to do it about three times a year. I enjoy everyone else's blogs though, this can be quite a solitary life so it helps to find out about others trials and triumphs. Here's a picture of it in action (I'm making a cowl):. And here's our yarn from the 2014 shear:. It's all hands on deck now to get knitting for the autumn markets!

Lane House Alpacas: Helping Hands and Routines

http://www.lanehousealpacas.co.uk/2014/01/helping-hands-and-routines.html

Sunday, 12 January 2014. Helping Hands and Routines. It may not be a chore, but it isn't ideal either. The boys take themselves to bed at dusk and in deep mid winter its dark for both the morning and evening feeds. This means that sometimes they are settled down in the shed so we may have to rouse them and that can lead to moaning from Noah who had become 'grumpy uncle Noah' now the little ones have pushed him down the hierarchy. Listen Do-dah-Do , do you want to know a secret .". He He He - Poo! Clara g...

Lane House Alpacas: Cocky b'stards

http://www.lanehousealpacas.co.uk/2014/06/cocky-bstards.html

Sunday, 15 June 2014. So, in reverse order. But then we noticed him laying down a lot more than normal. Over a few days this got worse. Dougal - laid low in masses of buttercups. Soon after shearing we had turned the boys out onto the big paddock. They had been kept out of this for some time while we had been 'improving'. This has started with muck spreading. An event that provided amusement and disgust in equal measure from our city-slicker house guests at the time! The grass is always greener. Her sugg...

Lane House Alpacas: Dr No(ah)

http://www.lanehousealpacas.co.uk/2013/10/dr-noah.html

Friday, 11 October 2013. I was going to blog the other week. I was going to blog about paddock maintenance. Hamish - Too fat. It was good to see a lot of Alpaca fiber product there on many stands in may forms. It was especially good to see Robyn from whynot. There with some animals. Maybe the sausage sarnie at Yarndale was to blame? No matter, ill mend and it was a lovely day. Our district hospital is not very far away so staff are local. A typical encounter. 'Hello, I have come to do something u...So al...

Lane House Alpacas: Tales of Goo

http://www.lanehousealpacas.co.uk/2013/09/tales-of-goo.html

Tuesday, 10 September 2013. A while ago we had an idea that we should keep the boys topped up with minerals and other vital things. Following research we opted for what has become known as the goo bucket. The Boys love it, this is probably because it is made mostly of molasses and they seem to have developed a bit of a sweet tooth. As it was my birthday I decided that if I could have cake - the boys could at least have a bit of goo. As the goo has been licked quite a bit you have to get your whole head in.

Lane House Alpacas: Paddock Times.

http://www.lanehousealpacas.co.uk/2013/09/paddock-times.html

Sunday, 1 September 2013. Dougal today - All better. Our summer herd hand this year was Phoebe who made her way from Austin, Texas all by herself to help us tend to the boys (and do a few extra-paddock activity such as go to London , Cumbria , Scotland , the Roman Wall , the Yorkshire dales). Here she is meeting the boys. Don't bother getting up Noah - She has only come 5,000 miles! And here she is practicing IM and SC technique on a banana. Two Healthy Boys - Growing fast. Down with the boyz. In the mea...

Lane House Alpacas: Pay Back

http://www.lanehousealpacas.co.uk/2014/03/pay-back.html

Sunday, 16 March 2014. I made a new year resolution to blog more and moan less. So here we are with March halfway done and no blog to be seen, probably because there isn't much chance of writing one without moaning about the weather! The boys (and the humans) have spent a lot of time in the shed. Bev and the boys taking shelter. Fin leads the boys across the 'mud bridge' in an orderly fashion. Fruit of the Paddock'. So what to do with all this yarn? We are already saving up our next batch. Noah alrea...

Meon Valley Church | You're invited, just come along!

You're invited, just come along! We are a bunch of God loving, Jesus following people. We believe church is for everyone. We believe that Wickham and the surrounding areas are one of the most beautiful places on God’s earth and we love living here and feel its important to show a different style of worship to the traditional Anglican Church. We aren’t a cult, we aren’t something scary and odd. We just use drums instead of an organ and sing slightly more modern songs! Its still praising God.
