An Artificial Forest: November 2011
http://forestartifical.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Tuesday, November 29, 2011. November is coming to a close. November is one of my favorite months of the year. It's the 11th month, it's (in most parts of the world) the beginning of winter, it kicks off a new Presidents (every 4 years), it signifies the start of the Holidays- which if you're in school means a break is right around the bend- and in Alaska it's the start of ski/snowboard season. What's not to like? Here are some of my November highlights:. Tasted much better than it looks here). Originally...

a map from life: short, sweet, distinct
http://amapfromlife.blogspot.com/2007/12/short-sweet-distinct.html
A map from life. Actually it's more about exploring beyond my maps for a while. Short, sweet, distinct. Today is my sixteenth afternoon in Xela and the final day of my second week of language school. I've fallen back into the very familiar habit of spending a lot of time studying in a single coffee shop, but it's different here. I'm using more notecards now than I ever did in Anchorage. In the bathroom of the aforementioned Xela coffe shop is a sign that reads as follows:. Posted by c.d.t. Bike: broken v...

a map from life: 11/01/2007 - 12/01/2007
http://amapfromlife.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html
A map from life. Actually it's more about exploring beyond my maps for a while. Holy cow, today is the 7th day that I've been in Guatemala. I've become pretty familiar with Xela, Zona 1 anyway, but it is still very much foreign to me. Perhaps if I spoke the language I wouldn't feel like such an outsider, but I doubt it. After all, I am in Guatemala. Quetzaltenango = Xelahu = Xela. It's a long story that involves Spaniards, battles, birds, and linguistic laziness. Posted by c.d.t. The man asked me. I ...

a map from life: some details about being threatened with a pistol
http://amapfromlife.blogspot.com/2007/11/some-details-about-being-threatened.html
A map from life. Actually it's more about exploring beyond my maps for a while. Some details about being threatened with a pistol. A few posts in the past I mentioned that we had been threatened, and I described this encounter as having been fun. I'd like to give a few more details now. We wandered outside and to the corner where we griped about Greyhound and how they've not done well for me. Ben later told me that the man had asked us not to stand on the sidewalk, and that when he approached the fence i...

An Artificial Forest: September 2012
http://forestartifical.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Saturday, September 29, 2012. Update (because it's been a while). I've come and gone, come and gone, and come and gone again. 2011/12 has been a whirl-wind, no doubt. After leaving New Mexico in July of 2011 I moved in with my life partner in Portland only to take a job in AK for the fall/winter. From NM to OR to AK, just like that *. Then, without warning, I was back in Portland living a disorganized, albeit liberating hand-to-mouth existence. And waiting. For what, I wasn't sure. A map from life.

An Artificial Forest: August 2014
http://forestartifical.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 2, 2014. The Trouble With Spoons. I was fortunate enough to have been asked to illustrate writer Mary Lochner's personal account of suicide and compulsion for the Anchorage Press, our city's alt. weekly. The Trouble With Spoons. You can read the full story here. I'll be adding more images later. Friday, August 1, 2014. More from "The Trouble With Spoons". Both my illustrations (the spoons) and the color paintings (the background images) were used in the design of this double truck. More ...
