erika husselmann: July 2014
http://erikahusselmann.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
When is a painting done? Title 'urban dwellers', acrylic and graphite on stretched canvas, 760mm x 1020mm x 35mm available from Black Door Gallery. Links to this post. And how typical. starting to doubt everything about the work. colour, shapes, orientation and subject matter, and feeling the need to 'start over' and cover the whole thing in gesso. trying to find 'worthiness', looking desperately for something to hold back the 'destroy' urge. So here it is, title for now: "on ice" ;-). Links to this post.

erika husselmann: 100 days project
http://erikahusselmann.blogspot.com/2014/10/100-days-project.html
One thing every day for 100 days. how hard can it be? Well, not too hard as I've signed up for the same thing for a second year. I've learnt that it has to be something really easy and quick to do - the longer it takes and the harder it is, the greater the possibility that you won't complete the 100 days and drop out along the way. And me being compulsive and a wee bit driven find it really hard to say I've lost the battle. competitive I think, is what some people might describe it. Facebook art page ;-).

erika husselmann: May 2013
http://erikahusselmann.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
At last winter has arrived, with rain, wind, cold and lots of indoor opportunities like eating, drinking, painting, eating and did I mention drinking? Tea of course. So it's all about getting the layers on, getting nice and toasty and then squeezing out. mixing. and slapping it on the canvas. Nice and slow. And if you know me there will be lots of wiping off and trying again LOL. Good opportunities too for taking part in a couple of group shows, the first of these is the Original Art Sale.

A residency of a different kind. For the next year or so I am fortunate to be on a particularly interesting residency. living and working on a boat in the beautiful Hauraki Gulf! All went well with moving into my new creative space and it should be interesting to see in what ways these new circumstances will influence my work. Thanks for visiting - see again soon :-). And how typical. starting to doubt everything about the work. colour, shapes, orientation and subject matter, and feeling the need to 'start over' and cover the whole thing in gesso. trying to find 'worthiness', looking desperately for something to hold back the 'destroy' urge. Inner thoughts telling me 'it's always good to give it time, turn it to face the wall for a while. might even take it to the mirror for an inverted look. sometimes there's a surprise there'. 24 July 2014 at 01:49.
