The Potting Shed

Tuesday, April 16, 2013. Bloom Day April 2013. Since spring seems somewhat elusive this year for my area, there are no blooms to be found anywhere outdoors. I found myself looking indoors for blooms for this first bloom day of spring. I surprised myself with the number of plants that I had blooming indoors. I really am not much of a houseplant kind of person. A primula I picked up the other day. Alyssum to go with pansies for a couple of early season containers. Thanks to Carol at May Dreams Gardens.

The Potting Shed: November 2012

http://www.michellescountrygardens.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Thursday, November 15, 2012. It's been called garden gold. If only gold were as easy to make, I'd be rich. I'm talking compost of course. I feel very fortunate to be able to compost my garden waste. I can't imagine gardening without composting. I've found lots of uses for this garden gold. I top dress garden beds with it. I mix some in with the potting soil in my containers and when planting new perennials I like to mix some in when I back fill. This really is a trash to treasure story. Lan Su, in Autumn.

The Potting Shed: July 2012

http://www.michellescountrygardens.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 23, 2012. At the mercy of Mother Nature. I've been gardening for 15 years. This has to be the most challenging. The season started out unseasonably warm but with decent amounts of rain. The last time we had measurable rain was in May. Unfortunately it came with hail three times over. Needless to say the hostas look pretty bad. Now we are in a drought along with temps in the 90's to the 100's day after day. Stachyus 'Helen Von Stein', geranium 'Rozeanne' and blue oat grass are all faring well.

The Potting Shed: October 2012

Sunday, October 21, 2012. Fall in the garden. After some really cold nights there isn't much blooming in the garden, but there is still lots of interest. The Purple Prince Snapdragons reseed every year in the Secret Garden and are still blooming away. Salvia 'May Night' still producing a few blooms. Dinosaur kale in the Potager. The fall pillar display. The theme seems to be rusty elements. I love this little grass. Some of the Indian corn we grew. Wednesday, October 10, 2012. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Saturday, September 29, 2012. Bringing the garden indoors. Flower arrangements are a wonderful way to bring the garden indoors. Who doesn't love getting a bouquet of flowers? Just gathered and waiting to be arranged. Each arrangement has it's own personality. Outdoor potting and arranging table. I'd love to know which one is your favorite! Thursday, September 20, 2012. The little playhouse was built by my grandpa for my siblings and myself more than 40 years ago. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I live and en...
