The wallaby’s not sure whether it was such a good idea to add this page, but my friends in the fancy, as the hobby is called, will no doubt. Descended from a single species, the Blue Rock Dove of north Africa and the lands surrounding the Mediterranean, the domestic pigeon occurs in a bewildering variety of form and color. There are birds that race home over long distances at an average of 40 mph or more, birds that perform aerobatics, birds bred for color, voice, appearance, and other. Right (from top):...

Columbiculture: Pigeon bite? kills man
http://columbiculture.blogspot.com/2008/06/pigeon-bite-kills-man.html
Towards the better cultivation and appreciation of the humble domesticated pigeon. Tuesday, June 10, 2008. I find this news item. From India incredible on two counts:. I've never seen a pigeon "bite" anyone. They don't have teeth. Perhaps they meant to indicate that the pigeon pecked. I don't think I've ever even had a pigeon pinch my skin between their beaks; I have had hookbills pinch my skin that way. Technorati Tags: domesticated pigeons. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Columbiculture: Champion Pigeon Racer Quits Over Cheating and Spying

Towards the better cultivation and appreciation of the humble domesticated pigeon. Sunday, June 08, 2008. Champion Pigeon Racer Quits Over Cheating and Spying. I don't know which aspect of this story. Strikes me as being saddest. The fact that people figured that a championship racer could only win consistently by cheating. Columbiculture: Determing The Gender of Pigeons

Towards the better cultivation and appreciation of the humble domesticated pigeon. Friday, May 30, 2008. Determing The Gender of Pigeons. Recently I had a fancier who is relatively new to pigeons ask me about sexing birds. I have a few thoughts on this- don't I always? And I would be curious to hear what others have to say about this. Checking the Width of the Pubic Bones. You can feel the pubic bones on the bird http:/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki. I've asked a lot of learned people and experienced fanciers ab...

Towards the better cultivation and appreciation of the humble domesticated pigeon. Saturday, November 11, 2006. How To Kill A Hobby (Part 1). Pigeon-keeping seems to have experienced a serious decline in popularity. Regardless of the whys of the decline, I do think there are some things that we do as pigeon fanciers that definitely hurt our chances of ever returning our hobby to the popularity that it once enjoyed. Which is the pigeon equivalent of Newcastle's Disease. My point is this: if you want to he...

Towards the better cultivation and appreciation of the humble domesticated pigeon. Saturday, April 07, 2007. Novice Corner - Lofty Ambitions. I'm a novice when it comes to ornithology in general but I'm a bit more experienced in the subject of domesticated pigeons. This is an article I wrote for my club's newsletter:. One of the more common questions that I've heard asked by novice pigeon fanciers is “What sort of loft should I build? 1) Study what other people have built. A little bit of time spent look...

Towards the better cultivation and appreciation of the humble domesticated pigeon. Thursday, August 09, 2007. How To Make The NPA Important Again (Part 2). In the long exchange of ideas that I had with another pigeon fancier regarding the NPA. And how it seems to have become somewhat irrelevant to many fanciers, one of the things that I pointed out is the NPA Quarterly Bulletin. This seems like a part of the NPA that has seen better days. I can hear a few of the objections already:. If they see what the ...

Towards the better cultivation and appreciation of the humble domesticated pigeon. Thursday, August 31, 2006. I got the audio companion to Peterson's Field Guide. I've tried blogging a few times over the years. It's always a source of enthusiasm. At the start and then the enthusiasm goes away as I realize that I really have nothing to say. This blog may go that way too. I guess we'll see. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Pigeon fancier and aspiring bird man. View my complete profile.

Columbiculture: Apple Cider Vinegar

Towards the better cultivation and appreciation of the humble domesticated pigeon. Friday, June 27, 2008. And this particular passage:. This solution can be used to treat young birds that show non-typical disease symptoms of poor growth. The solution can also be given to birds suffering from respiratory diseases that produce a large amount of mucus exudate. This solution will help "cut through" the mucus and allow it to be expelled easier. To those people I would suggest that they would be wise to consid...
