Check it out! – Microfinance and Me

https://microfinanceandme.wordpress.com/2013/08/26/check-it-out

August 26, 2013. I would like to share some of the reading I’ve been doing. I receive weekly emails from Ashoka’s initiative startempathy.org. This week’s update featured this article: The Crucial Role of Empathy in Development: Q&A With Social Entrepreneur Molly Menching. Molly’s name rang a bell and as soon as I started reading the article, I remembered that I had read about her organization, Tostan. In the acclaimed book on female gender issues, Half the Sky. This entry was posted in General Posts.

The Roof of the World – Microfinance and Me

https://microfinanceandme.wordpress.com/2013/09/26/the-roof-of-the-world

September 26, 2013. The Roof of the World. I received word that I was headed to the roof of the world on the AKDN helicopter about 19 hours before I departed. After packing, a short sleep, a ride in an armoured car, and a safety overview from the Swiss pilot, myself and nine others lifted off to scale the Pamirs on the morning of September 18. Dushanbe from the sky. The beginning of the “real” mountains. Proof I was there! Sometimes I felt like I could stick my arm out the window and touch the mountains.

Settling In – Microfinance and Me

https://microfinanceandme.wordpress.com/2013/08/31/settling-in

August 31, 2013. As I settle in to my luxurious lifestyle in Dushanbe, I wanted to share a little bit about what my life is like here and I feel the best way to do that is in photos! The galleries below display a day in my life, followed by some photos from a couple of my weekends as they have been quite loaded with interesting things to do. Scroll your mouse over the photos to see captions and click to see the full captions. Exiting my apartment courtyard. Another view during my run. This is my desk!

November 29, 2013. By this point, you may be thinking Wow, Kendra! Tajikistan sure looks like a cool country. But what exactly are you doing. That’s it. Learning. That’s what this is all about and that’s exactly what I’m both pursuing and gaining. I’ve discovered my addiction to acquiring knowledge and how highly I value it. I feel like I’ve officially become a part of the bank. I even made it into a couple of group shots! Annual Network Conference for Branch and BSC Managers. 4 Implementing Grameen Foun...
