The Middle Bulge: December 2008
http://middlebulge.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
A journal from the equator about life for an American expat family living in Nairobi, Kenya. Friday, December 26, 2008. Trauma in Kenya - part II. So hopefully, this will be the end of it and no one will decide to sue us. We will ask the insurance company to reimburse us for the costs paid for the bicyclists hospital bills (about USD 50) and the money we gave him and his friend for bus fare. Wednesday, December 24, 2008. Monday, December 22, 2008. Tuesday, December 2, 2008. O, star of wonder.
The Middle Bulge: July 2008
http://middlebulge.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
A journal from the equator about life for an American expat family living in Nairobi, Kenya. Wednesday, July 30, 2008. A trip to an exotic locale: Zanzibar. Sunday morning we had another lovely breakfast on the same spot. For breakfast they have fruit scones, something I rarely see served for breakfast at a hotel. They were delicious – almost as good as the scones I make! With the spiced coffee, they were a real treat (in case you don't know, scones are one of life's greatest pleasures for me)! Other ben...
The Middle Bulge: April 2009
http://middlebulge.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
A journal from the equator about life for an American expat family living in Nairobi, Kenya. Thursday, April 30, 2009. It’s not the White House. But now I can say I’ve lived on 16th in Washington, D.C., just like the Obamas (they live at the intersection of 16th and Pennsylvania), who also happen to be former residents of Chicago just like me. It’s so cool to live in a city and in a neighborhood where I can go just a few blocks and see the Washington Monument and have the White House come into view.

A journal from the equator about life for an American expat family living in Nairobi, Kenya. Monday, June 30, 2008. Even the air is different. Sunday, June 29, 2008. Read an article I wrote in The Lutheran magazine. In February, you'll recall that I visited Southern Sudan as part of my work in producing the 2007 annual report for the Lutheran World Federation's Kenya-Sudan program (the office Sarah works for). The member magazine of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), where I used to work.

knittingqueen: February 2010
http://theknittingqueen.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 23, 2010. Today's post is about knitting. Because that is all I have to report to you. I still have no job (although something may be on the horizon, so stay tuned.), so I figured, might as well knit! With buckets of yarn and time on my hands, I should put myself to good use. And about two weeks ago I started the coveted, ever-so-hard-to-find-pattern for the Paton's Must Have Cardigan. I will say this- remember the person I met at Avatar who asked me about my knitting? Today Eric is 7!

Wednesday, June 24, 2009. Well, look at me blogging again! That's twice in one week! Don't get too use to it. I finished up these two Who hats that I found here. Pretty darn cute, don't you think? One is for that baby, Blake, and one is for Mara's baby that apparently will never come out. Quick deer update: No sign of the evil one. Don't know if the Irish Spring is actually working, or if the creatures of darkness are haunting another neighborhood this week. We shall see. Works upon booting up. At Bob's ...
knittingqueen: Random Musings from a Fake Pioneer
http://theknittingqueen.blogspot.com/2010/03/random-musings-from-fake-pioneer.html
Wednesday, March 3, 2010. Random Musings from a Fake Pioneer. No, really, this has been a week that has reinforced every stereotype of my life up here in Amish country. Like, for instance, the flock of turkeys I passed on the side of the road driving the kids to school. I don't mean that this flock of turkeys was in a fenced-in pen or yard. That would be typical of island life. No, these turkeys were walking down the street. Turkeys. Yes indeedy, they actually thought I was worth a look. They sent me...

Wednesday, March 25, 2009. The Fun, It Never Seems To End. Hello faithful readers. I'm back. Taking a break from the job search to give you an update on how little else is happening in this house right now (except for Eric, who is doing some serious reorganizing of his Pokemon cards, so at least something important is being accomplished around here). How did the craft show go, you ask? Well, remember the update I gave you last week? You can review that for a current update. Thursday, March 19, 2009.
knittingqueen: October 2009
http://theknittingqueen.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 20, 2009. Happy Birthday from Jane! And do you know what that means? It means I haven't blogged since September! How did THAT happen? Let's see- what have I been doing with my time? Honestly, it has taken me 3 days just to compose this post, and after reading to the end you will undoubtedly say. THIS took her 3 days? October also means BIRTHDAYS around here- Mike and I are now officially 41. In our 40's. Old. Sunday my dear friend Jane gave me. More Pagewood Farms.yum. I mean, I. Honestl...

Thursday, May 28, 2009. Q and A with the Queen. Yep, it's time once again for Q and A with the Queen! How was Ryan's party? I will say, out of all those kids you see there, Eric (the only kid who refused to turn around and be in the picture, the little booger) was the loudest. Eric is the consummate little brother: "guys guys hey guys listen to this guys! Ryan has a nice group of friends, and he adores his cousins, Ellie and Jack, so it was a good group. How was the movie? What's new on the job front?

Keep up to date on Alexandria Leah and Natalie Andrea and how things are changing in the lives of Sarah and Stephen as parents. May 25, 2014. Don't know where the time goes.obviously not spent blogging about what is going on in the Padre household! Natalie is - almost- potty trained! Very, very exciting! Her language continues to improve and she has become a real chatter box. Lexi spent the night at Auntie Michelle's house and Natalie talked our ears off! Now we can't get her to stop! May 8, 2014. Times Two: Summer Reflections
http://sandspadre.blogspot.com/2014/09/summer-reflections.html
Keep up to date on Alexandria Leah and Natalie Andrea and how things are changing in the lives of Sarah and Stephen as parents. September 14, 2014. The summer has come and gone. Over all, it was pretty good - not unbearably hot and humid 100% of the time and we had two great vacations where we got to see family. Seeing the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. Getting together with Sarah's family and the cousins having some great quality time together. Natalie's words have come a long way and most people can unde...

Wednesday, June 2, 2010. Back with a Vengance. So perhaps you may have noticed a longer-than-usual break here at The Knitting Queen. No reason, really. Between my new job at the bank and trying to manage all the people in this 5 acres of craziness, time has somehow slipped by. After a bit, Benita and her family arrived. These are people I had never met and they had never been to our home. At the moment we opened the door to them, I'm thinking. What is that horrid smell? They were carrying armloads of foo...

Middlebrow Musicals
A look at musicals from a middling perspective. Monday, 14 April 2014. The Future Sound of Australian Musical Comedy. WARNING: there are some naughty words). Drama" by Kate Miller-Heidke featuring Drapht - lyric video. For reasons unknown I can't seem to embed this clip but it's very much worth a click). This is a song from the album O Vertigo. But what really makes a great comedy song is the music. The character being portrayed here is the world's largest ego; an outrageous and outspoken modern-day ...
