New Temple in Provo: Here Comes The Sun
http://newtempleinprovo.blogspot.com/2014/03/here-comes-sun_8.html
Saturday, March 8, 2014. Here Comes The Sun. I arrived at the site early this morning. I enjoyed the peace and quiet of a new day,. Until this man got to work. Jacobsen's crews had been at the site for an hour by the time the sun rose. They attacked the west lot with a vengeance. I am interested in this last trench on the south edge. The red ladder is pointing out where this trench is. I believe it's built on the concrete wall which has been constructed over the last month. This 1960s-era photo shows the...

New Temple in Provo: Two Invitations
http://newtempleinprovo.blogspot.com/2015/04/two-invitations.html
Friday, April 24, 2015. I received two invitations this morning. The first was to tour the new Payson Temple. The second was to visit the 9th floor of the Nu Skin building. With these guys, Craig and Nick. Lucky me! Mr Engineer-Husband and I had a delightful morning in Payson. This is a beautiful temple. Local artist Jeff Brimley. Is also an admirer. The Payson Temple has a very modern fountain. Our new temple has a fountain, too. I keep pinching myself to make sure I'm not dreaming. This is the base whe...

New Temple in Provo: August 2015
http://newtempleinprovo.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 27, 2015. The morning, of course, was beautiful. A year ago,. We couldn't have even called this a garden. Landscapers have been working diligently. There wasn't a lot of dirt to work with. It was nice to step up to the new gate. And take pictures today. Progress is abundantly evident. The temple didn't get gablets. Workmen at the east stairs had plenty of sunlight this morning. I don't think this is for the exterior. Carpenters worked just a few feet from the temple. Yes, it's there!

New Temple in Provo: Fireside and Final Lift Pour
http://newtempleinprovo.blogspot.com/2013/07/fireside-and-final-lift-pour.html
Monday, July 22, 2013. Fireside and Final Lift Pour. In preparation for their Temple-to-Temple 5K Run. On the 24th, the Provo South Stake held a fireside last night. Andy Kirby, Senior Project Manager for the LDS Church, shown in this picture as he arrived at the site this morning, was the speaker. Of the 800 people in attendance, I was one of 600 not from the South Stake, indicating the tremendous interest in the reconstruction of the tabernacle. One of Brother Kirby's first tasks was to secure the buil...

New Temple in Provo: Fireside and A Little Snow
http://newtempleinprovo.blogspot.com/2013/09/fireside-and-little-snow.html
Monday, September 30, 2013. Fireside and A Little Snow. Elder Newitt reminded us that William Harrison Folsum was the architect for the Provo Tabernacle. Brother Folsum designed the Manti Temple. After the tabernacle fire, Church architects studied the details of this temple to become familiar with his work, an experience which Brother Kirby said was extremely interesting. In designing the new Provo Temple they asked, "If he were still alive today, what would Brother Folsum do with this temple? Brother K...

New Temple in Provo: Provo South Stake Fireside: The Original Tabernacle
http://newtempleinprovo.blogspot.com/2015/07/provo-south-stake-fireside-original.html
Sunday, July 19, 2015. Provo South Stake Fireside: The Original Tabernacle. The Provo South Stake held a fireside earlier this evening. Ryan W. Saltzgiver, who completed his masters thesis on the archaeology of the original tabernacle, was the main speaker. The construction of the first tabernacle took sixteen years. The second tabernacle was under construction for eighteen years. Ground-penetrating radar confirmed where the foundation was. The interior of this tabernacle was similar to the second tabern...

New Temple in Provo: Octagons and Other Symbols
http://newtempleinprovo.blogspot.com/2014/11/octagons-and-other-symbols.html
Tuesday, November 18, 2014. Octagons and Other Symbols. I have, of late, found myself thinking about octagons, wondering if there was some symbolism. I made a new friend yesterday, and if you can believe it, the topic of octagons randomly came up. The roof of the pavilion is an octagon. We knew that already. Eight sides. That's the definition. Each of the four towers has a roof with an octagonal base. The base of the steeple roof is also an octagon. You might have forgotten that there is an octagon.

New Temple in Provo: Cool Views From Above
http://newtempleinprovo.blogspot.com/2013/10/cool-views-from-above.html
Thursday, October 17, 2013. Cool Views From Above. I got a little push this week to leave my safe perch. The light was coming from a torch cutter removing piers from the northeast tower foundation. The southeast tower foundation, which was poured Tuesday, is not quite up to strength. However, the concrete should be fully cured soon and then these piers will be cut away, also. The area in the lower left of this picture will house part of the dressing rooms for the baptistry. A similar but deeper lift stat...

New Temple in Provo: Fountain!
http://newtempleinprovo.blogspot.com/2015/04/fountain.html
Tuesday, April 21, 2015. Some days are more exciting than others. My favorite time to arrive at the site is just as the sun comes over the mountains. It turns out this was the exact time the fountain was lifted off its delivery trailer. My camera looked for detail while the fountain rose. This was almost as exciting as Moroni's placement last year. Except this time I was the only observer outside the fence. Everyone inside the fence seemed quite pleased. I was delighted to see the east deck. Dr Cowan is ...
