1:87th THE SIZE OF A REAL BLOG. Skip to primary content. Layout Staging – Part 2. I’ve made some decent progress on the staging yard over the past few months. I mounted the Mole turnout motors, laid down the sound deadening material, attached and sanded the roadbed and have begun to lay track. Work has been progressing quickly on the removable staging yard I’m building for one end of my layout, and a few weeks ago I had reached the point where I needed to get the turnout motors installed. Michigan Model Railroader: Detroit & Mackinac: Childhood Recollections

http://michiganmodelrailroader.blogspot.com/2014/01/detroit-mackinac-childhood-recollections.html

A blog about HO scale model railroading. Saturday, January 11, 2014. Detroit and Mackinac: Childhood Recollections. The first one is a great shot of DM181 approaching the main street crossing in downtown Harrisville. I probably saw hundreds of D&M trains pass through this area as a kid. These trains were usually going 10-15 mph through there so it was perfect for watching them go by just beside the tracks. DM181 passing through downtown Harrisville, MI. Hedley Junction: June 2015

http://hedley-junction.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Modelling CN Murray Bay Subdivision in the early 80s. Sunday, June 28, 2015. Track modifications in Villeneuve. Before painting track in Villeneuve, we decided yesterday to slightly modify the track arrangement to improve operation. The right yard ladder was a complex assembly of curved turnouts branching off the main line. Worst, it meant the track radius was getting quite sharp there. Also, there was no hierachy in turnout location, so it was always confusing. Motive Power and Rolling Stock. I'm in a d...

Modelling CN Murray Bay Subdivision in the early 80s. Tuesday, September 30, 2014. The Bridge on the River Malbaie - Part 10. Original styrene bridge pile. Casting the ice breaker. I used the same method described in a previous post about making plaster abutments. Stippled concrete effect on fresh plaster. While the plaster was still fresh, I used an old stiff brush to stipple the surface and get an old concrete effect. also, using a scrap of styrene, I bevelled the edge of the pile following the pro...

Penn Central's Connection to Canada in HO Scale. International Paper North Tonawanda. October 9, 2016. October 10, 2016. The power plant at International Paper in North Tonawanda burned coal, and the company stockpiled coal next to the employee parking lot, so I intend to model the inbound coal loads on my layout. I have no photos of coal hoppers moving into or out of the plant, so I’m forced to guess at what that would have looked like. Cambria and Indiana Railroad. Penn Central Rolling Stock Photos.

A blog about HO scale model railroading. Thursday, October 23, 2014. Layout Idea: Detroit and Mackinac and the TankTrain™. DM 1280 leading three other units somewhere in Michigan. A better look at the TankTrain cars in real life. The best part is there are several models out there for these specific tank cars. I found a great example from Athearn. A look at one of the Athearn models. A look at two of the units connected to each other. A closer look at the connecting hose between the two units. These woul...

More Thoughts on Roundhouse Doors – Pembroke:87

https://pembroke87.wordpress.com/2015/07/12/more-thoughts-on-roundhouse-doors

Modelling the Canada Atlantic Railway into Pembroke in Proto:87. More Thoughts on Roundhouse Doors. I’ve been pondering the roundhouse doors for a couple of days. Earlier this year, I came up with the idea to drive the doors with magnets beneath the layout. However, the tangle of rods and levers beneath the baseboard was hard to visualize. So today, I thought I would sketch it out. It still looks too complex to work nicely. There are still some details to work out, like how to engage the ends of the magn...
