In May 2014 the general practice in Millom was in crisis due to a severe lack of doctors. This led to the closure of the Waterloo House Surgery and the GP surgery moved into outpatient facilities at Millom hospital. The practice requested help from Cumbria Partnership Foundation Trust and University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Foundation Trust.
