polishing up, finishing off | minute particulars
https://minuteparticulars.wordpress.com/2009/11/30/polishing-up-finishing-off
A year in the life of a creative writing MA student. Labour well the minute particulars. Polishing up, finishing off. 30 November, 2009. So it’s taken me longer than it really ought to do the tinkering that was required of the terza rima sequence. Try to make something out of what I already have? 8230; We’ll see, I guess. The Artist’s Way. But just as helpful, if not more so in terms of actual. Is Jerry Seinfeld’s productivity secret. Kindly passed on to me by Maggi Dawn. 30 November, 2009 at 8:02 pm.
first-class work | minute particulars
https://minuteparticulars.wordpress.com/2010/06/18/first-class-work
A year in the life of a creative writing MA student. Labour well the minute particulars. 18 June, 2010. Higher than any of the marks that I’ve got for my poetry. I don’t want to say that writing prose is easier than writing poetry, but I can tell you that I worked a lot harder, and for a lot longer, on my poetry than I did on this particular prose extract. So. I’m not quite sure how to rearrange all that in my head. This post brought to you trips to the seaside, big surprises and epic amounts of fun.
big problems | minute particulars

A year in the life of a creative writing MA student. Labour well the minute particulars. 30 April, 2010. Maybe Definitely I find that things need time to mull and develop. Though as Sean himself said there’s every possibility one’s subconscious could just be thinking about football (though probably not specifically football in my case). Anyway he sent me a couple of really interesting links about procrastination. This one. 1 What are the most important problems in your field? This feels sort of pertinent...
September | 2010 | minute particulars
https://minuteparticulars.wordpress.com/2010/09
A year in the life of a creative writing MA student. Labour well the minute particulars. 9 September, 2010. So how does it feel? And that, I think, is the biggest gift this year has given me: the confidence to just give it a go. To see what I can do. Who knows how it’ll turn out? But I’m game…. The online journal of a wannabe writer doesn’t seem quite so interesting…. I’ll end with the poem that closed my dissertation, which is hopefully not. From one thing to the next: the way leaves emerge like mist.
August | 2010 | minute particulars
https://minuteparticulars.wordpress.com/2010/08
A year in the life of a creative writing MA student. Labour well the minute particulars. 26 August, 2010. Well, it’s almost done. I need to give my critical commentary (a 1,500-word account of myself as a writer terrifying) a good edit, and I’m taking my poems away with me this weekend to a festival I’m going to (madness! So that I can continue mulling them over and make any last-minute tweaks, but really, I’m finished. Almost a week before the deadline, too wonders will clearly never cease. This oneR...

visual-poetics: Getting it Out There
http://visual-poetics.blogspot.com/2015/02/getting-it-out-there.html
Wednesday, 18 February 2015. Getting it Out There. There are two things that really helped motivate me with this - one was being coached by a friend who was training as a writing coach - kind of like a life coach but for writers. She asked me lots of questions about my writing life that made me think about what I do and why - you can read more about that here. The second thing was reading a blog post by Canal Laureate Jo Bell, which you can read here. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Books Read in 2016.

Monday, 21 April 2014. The Writing Process Blog Tour. I was nominated to take part in the blog tour by Heidi-Jo Swain. What am I working on? I have recently finished putting together my first poetry collection with the help of my rather marvellous mentor Pascale Petit. I was lucky enough to get some funding for this from. Right now I am working on a sequence of poems based around numbers. The poems were sparked off by a prompt on Jo Bell's 52 blog. How does my work differ from others in its genre? That's...
visual-poetics: Some thoughts on Re-reading Books
http://visual-poetics.blogspot.com/2015/03/some-thoughts-on-re-reading-books.html
Saturday, 14 March 2015. Some thoughts on Re-reading Books. When I re-read The Rainbow I had thought I might discover, like a flower pressed between the pages, the dried remains of my younger self preserved within it.' (Geoff Dyer - Out of Sheer Rage: In the Shadow of D.H. Lawrence). Of course that doesn't mean that we shouldn't re-read books or that we won't enjoy re-visiting novels that we have already read. Often a re-reading of a book can be enjoyable in a different way to the first reading, it c...

Sunday, 5 July 2015. Language and the weight of knowledge. I found myself wondering what would it be like to not bring this burden (if it is a burden) of knowledge to the reading of a poem or text? Would it make the words seem fresher, newer? Would we glean a deeper or greater meaning from the text? Does our store of language, meaning, images and understanding weigh the writing down and skew the intended meaning? So maybe it is a blessing after all – and this post is meaningless…. Books Read in 2016.

Minute Particulars – one woman's adventures in building a better life
One woman's adventures in building a better life. So, we’re back in the school holidays. But it’s ME that gets to spend five hours trying to fix stuff. Anyway. Sorted the computer issue out, but all that took two and a half hours out of my day (and the kids are “only” out for 7 hours today). Courgettes and spring onions. Chicken, courgette and tarragon pie. Sigh We are going on holiday next week (guess who has done all the work for the holiday? August 2, 2016. August 2, 2016. School holidays suck real bad.
