Wednesday, May 6, 2015. Waterfall Glen run and ride. My son is training for a couple of runs in May. They're essentially half-marathons with obstacles thrown in, from huge mud puddles to throwing spears at hay bales. A couple of weekends ago, he said he wanted to run in Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve; I asked to tag along, since I'm in training to not be obese at some point in my life. January 30, 2010. Not Worth My Salt. It is winter in Chicago. We have had snowstorms, ice-storms, freezing rain and sleet in the past week or so. With each precipitation, the city is obliged to salt the roads in mass quantities. When the snow melts, we have our very own Dead Sea on 75th Street. Consequently, my normally Barcelona-red Toyota Camry became a splotchy classic Chicago Middle-of-Winter-Dirty-Salt white. It was time for a car-wash. May 28, 2008. Back to the beginning. Southern Illinois is more beautiful than I remember. Dad and I cruised our Suzukis on roads that ascend and descend as they twist and turn like the serpent king, Muscalinda, slithering through the Shawnee National Forest looking for deities to rescue. We were in search of Jamestown Road that would lead us to the Garden of the Gods. We found the wine trail, the Pomona Natural Bridge and Bald Knob Cross, instead. It was worth it. So many roads, so little time.

Mile ride through rural Indiana was to make sure habitat for humanity can afford to give homes to those in need. Altogether we raised $500 out of a little over $4000 in total. Thursday, October 5, 2017. It's been a skinny year for long rides. But I did manage to take part in my favorite ride, the North Shore Century, and a new ride: the Kickstand Classic, an actual timed race. Taking a break in Lake Bluff. The NCC was, as usual, very well organized and a joy. I joined a thousand of my bike-riding friends at sunrise near the Northwestern University campus ( Go U Northwestern!
