Monday, May 11, 2015. A Visit to the Zoo. I love going to the zoo. So on Saturday I invited a large part of my family to join me for the first visit in Spring to the Zoo Vienna. It was a great day for man and beast. It was warm enough to go for a swim. Although others desparately tried to get inside where the food was. Some were just standing around enjoying the nice weather . While others tried to hide. This guy (who is actually a girl) was relaxing in the sunshine. And someone was really tired.

hilda's hideout: Finally warming up...
http://hildashideout.blogspot.com/2015/05/finally-warming-up.html
Friday, May 29, 2015. I haven't complained about the cooler spring. Putting off the heat of summer is fine with me. The best flowers are those planted by nature, and this year the primroses are loving the cooler weather and rain. My good friend, Rosie, reminded me of the name of this delicate little flower (weed).scarlet guara. It's also having a good year. There is nothing more entertaining than watching kitties play. Now back to laundry and quilting! Friday, May 29, 2015. Of birds and apricots.

hilda's hideout: December 2014
http://hildashideout.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 22, 2014. With Dale's help I was able to finish the fobots I had started way back when. I had parked the pieces parts on a tray in the garage- the man cave, and he had put them up in the rafters. I remembered them, and yesterday afternoon we got them finished. I also finished our advent calendar. I decided we'll just keep decorating the little tree until it's done, a little charm or milagro a day and that way we'll get to enjoy it for a while. Better late than never! Eve of the Solstice.

Tuesday, June 23, 2015. Orphan blocks, of course. Crystal. Put out a call for orphan blocks on her blog. In looking for some to send her, I decided to put together a quilt from some of the orphans I've gotten. I'm not much of a piecer, but I had some blocks to send her along with more fabric squares that I had used to make the blocks. I believe they were Liberty of London fabrics that just didn't inspire me. Now back to cooking. Pat. Tuesday, June 23, 2015. Tuesday, June 16, 2015. I've been busy quilting...

Gigi's Room: I have a Flimsy
http://gigisroom-ruth.blogspot.com/2015/07/i-have-flimsy.html
Thursday, July 9, 2015. I have a Flimsy. I worked on putting the made fabric blocks together on and off through the day yesterday and I finished it after dinner. I decided to miter the corners on the borders; I usually do my best to avoid miters. As always I was pleased to see how well they came out and how easy it was after all. Tux is really a good dog and has very good manners and is very obedient. He is also a good companion. That goes for both of these guys. July 10, 2015 at 6:55 AM. Red white and b...

Gigi's Room: April 2015
http://gigisroom-ruth.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 30, 2015. I finished piecing the back of the Fresh Cut quilt. The backing fabric was 108 inches and I needed it to be about10 inches wider. I pieced a section that is 13 inches wide and if that is too wide for the long arm it can be trimmed. Working with a quilt this large has been. Top and backing pressed and folded and ready to go the the long arm quilter. Links to this post. Saturday, April 25, 2015. I had a bit of a time deciding how to do the borders. The top without the bordered...

Thursday, May 28, 2015. Playing in the Garden. I have been neglecting my sewing room to play in the garden. I will take pictures another day as the bugs are out en mass now. I am trying to identify some of the things planted in a garden area that has been neglected and is over grown. My daughter wants to dig everything up an re purpose the area but I think there might be some interesting things growing there and before we discard anything we should find out what it is. Today I found this little flower.

Gigi's Room: July 2015

Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Yesterday, I got going on the "Take Four" place mats. I bought a bundle of 10 fat quarters and I had a hard time deciding which ones I was going to use to make 6 place mats. I finally decided to make the first 4, using the fabrics I thought worked the best. I made the other 2 from what I thought worked best for the 2. After I finished trimming them all to the same size, I took them outside to photograph. I eagerly wait the ripening. Links to this post. Thursday, July 23, 2015.

Gigi's Room: I'm Back
http://gigisroom-ruth.blogspot.com/2015/07/im-back.html
Wednesday, July 8, 2015. I cleaned up my sewing room and played in the garden for a while and finally got around to sewing some improv blocks. These 16 blocks are on a design board all smooshed together so they fit on the board. I plan to separated them with white sashing strips. I will probably replace the one block with the darker green patch. It is the only place I used that fabric and because it doesn't appear anywhere else it just seems out of place. So glad to see a post from you! I have been quilt...

Gigi's Room: Progress
http://gigisroom-ruth.blogspot.com/2015/07/progress.html
Friday, July 10, 2015. I layered up the baby quilt and I am all ready to quilt it. First I have to decide if I can use the thread I have or if I need to shop. I want to use variegated thread with the serpentine stitch in the center of the sashing and I am not sure if what I have is right for it. This is a sample of the 2 choices I have in mind (and in my thread stash). Maybe I am getting too obsessive about the thread. In the year since we moved I have become more and more discouraged about working in my...
