A bard's eye view of love, life and psychotronic cinema. Monday, March 28, 2005. Oh man, I had a dream. this weekend I dreamt I was reading a couple of poems by Chris Murray. I'm so used to getting five hrs of sleep, working with a sleep deficit, that waking life and dreaming life blend together. I dream when I'm awake, and I read when I dream. and the dreams are so fricking vivid that I think an episode I experienced was but a dream, and the dream is an episode from my waking reality. Miss his words, man.

About the 20 yr anniversary of the movie The Breakfast Club. However, John Hughes's movie. Is a decent film, I've seen it oh I dunno how many times. but it is not the quintessential teen flick as reported today in the Bee. too many stereotypes, too much youthful angst:. Pity poor me, my parents just don't understand. Naw, cuz I've never met a pers...

Nothing moves in a straight line,. But in arcs, epicycles, spirals and gyres. Nothing living grows in cubes, cones, or rhomboids,. But we take a little here and we give a little there,. And the wind blows right through us,. And blows the apples off the tree, and hangs a red kite suddenly there,. It is many as raindrops. It is one as rain.

Monday, July 26, 2004. A few years ago I served time in grad school. after finishing what seemed a life sentence of hard labor I find myself thinking of a seminal text I used for an intro to critical theory, and a later illustration on how humanity is defined often by those who live on its margins. A writer would think ta...

Saturday, March 1, 2014. Subantarctic Marine Reserves - Great, But Don't Get Schmoozed. New marine reserves - we must really care about NZ's subantarctic islands. But do we really? They had a hell of a trip down: the navy boat HMNZS Wellington, with the Minister, DOC staff, navy kids, Sam and Gareth Morgan, and Metservice people was forced to turn back from a storm described as 'hell on earth'. 16 metre waves and gusts up to 90 knots (166kph).eek! Multiply that by 4. Eek! I'd heard rumours about setting ...

Thursday, May 2, 2013. She began to look for solutions. She found refuge in a brand new soulless hill suburb, far from the shops and schools, a dark-glassed McMansion large enough to facilitate her retreat into the innermost rooms of the house. She paid cautious men to come with thick armfuls of purple-grey wool and fill the walls and windows and ceiling and front rooms while she sat in the basement wearing BOSE noise cancelling headphones turned up to max negation. On Guy Fawkes night she put her headph...

What I'm feeling an urge to write about at the moment is the tendency for environmental agendas to slide into misanthropy. Misanthropy: a hatred for humanity! You meet people like the person I was then all the time. We say things like 'the best cure for humanity is a giant plague', or 'the earth will be better off once all the people have killed each other'. We need to stop and recognise that this is a horrify...Let's...

Wednesday, November 19, 2014. The Perversion of 'Be the Change'. 8220;Be the change that you wish to see in the world,” Gandhi famously advised. The words once evoked some kind of a response in me, a wonder and excitement of possibilities. Now I feel they conjure up nothing more than a hackneyed truism, an overused and abused and essentially meaningless call to irrelevant individualism. What happened? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
