Jared's Theology Journey: February 2016
http://theologyjourney.blogspot.com/2016_02_01_archive.html
A journey through several texts as a way to continue theological growth and faith formation. Friday, February 26, 2016. The following is a guest post by my good friend and brother, Brian Foulks. Yes, I applaud Donald Trump for at least [being] honest about his politics but he is an evil man. How do Christians even justify that black and brown lives are not vehemently abused by society? Racism sucks the life out of organization. It demeans in order to tear down. There is no redeemable quality with...I lov...

Jared's Theology Journey: November 2014
http://theologyjourney.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
A journey through several texts as a way to continue theological growth and faith formation. Tuesday, November 25, 2014. Inherent Human Dignity: It's a Thing. Last week in my theology class, we talked about how easy it is for people to use and abuse one another by objectifying or de-valuing a person from the status of a living breathing human being to that of a thing that exists solely for our personal pleasure. Obviously, this is not ok. The scripture passage for this idea is Genesis 1:27. And then if w...

Jared's Theology Journey: December 2015
http://theologyjourney.blogspot.com/2015_12_01_archive.html
A journey through several texts as a way to continue theological growth and faith formation. Wednesday, December 2, 2015. This morning during daily prayer we sang "Were You There? At first I thought it was an odd choice for Advent, as we long for Christmas and the joy of Christ coming into the world. But as we kept singing, I kept thinking about why we would sing this now, when we usually sing it in Lent. I mean, after all the cute baby stuff. The world killed him. Not that death stopped Jesus or could h...

Jared's Theology Journey: What does our Savior Look Like?
http://theologyjourney.blogspot.com/2016/03/what-does-our-savior-look-like.html
A journey through several texts as a way to continue theological growth and faith formation. Monday, March 21, 2016. What does our Savior Look Like? Yesterday was Palm Sunday in the Western church. And what do we do for Palm Sunday? We read the story of Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem on a colt (or donkey, depending on the year) and follow that up with a one-two punch of the passion story. It's emotional whiplash, to say the least. But, is it really surprisingly, given what we know about humanity?

Jared's Theology Journey: Maybe the Church Should Come Out
http://theologyjourney.blogspot.com/2016/02/maybe-church-should-come-out.html
A journey through several texts as a way to continue theological growth and faith formation. Tuesday, February 16, 2016. Maybe the Church Should Come Out. What follows are some cursory thoughts, it's certainly not an end all, be all conversation, but rather a lengthened version of Jared's morning coffee musings. A lot comes from what I preached on Sunday and a lot also comes from the following Ted Talk, which I've found to be really interesting and perhaps helpful. And by that, I mean the church needs to...

Jared's Theology Journey: Get it Together, Church
http://theologyjourney.blogspot.com/2016/06/get-it-together-church.html
A journey through several texts as a way to continue theological growth and faith formation. Wednesday, June 15, 2016. Get it Together, Church. I read and reread Bishop Elizabeth Eaton's letter about the Orlando shooting about a half dozen times this morning, and I am left with the same question. And frankly, I don't know that this policy is going anywhere anytime soon. Which is another way of saying, we don't really know what to do with you, but we're not entirely ready to say you are not "other," but w...

Jared's Theology Journey: March 2016
http://theologyjourney.blogspot.com/2016_03_01_archive.html
A journey through several texts as a way to continue theological growth and faith formation. Thursday, March 24, 2016. And They'll Know We Are Christians By Our Love? What follows is inspired by my sermon for the people of Word of Hope on Maundy Thursday 2016. The inspiration for this comes from John 13:35. By this everyone will know you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.". If someone who didn't know God saw you, would they know that you were a disciple of Christ? I'm white. I'm male...

This sermon was preached to the people of Orangeburg Lutheran Church on May 10, 2015. The text for the morning was John 15:9-17. Is about an entire war that was fought for the love of one woman. Two of my favorite shows,. How I Met Your Mother. Were entirely based around the love lives of their characters, with bits of situational comedy thrown in. And even in crime serials like. 8220;I beli...
